Cheers Baz, the second one's from Hiroshima - the A-bomb dome. Was nearly directly under the epicentre of the blast and therefore the force was down rather than out, leaving the building as you see it. learning about masks etc in PS so theses are hardly original just needed stuff that was easy to use, masking irregular shapes is not going well
Was messing about with that a few weeks ago, easiest solution I had was to magic lasso the area in the background layer, select the mask layer - area should still be highlighted and then fill with black.
