Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

interesting reflection of sunlight in a car sticker. That sticker is black/anthrazite with a few glittery bits thrown in.

Somehow I am shooting RAW. I don't remember deciding to do that yesterday, but there we have it.

Ooo nice shot! Would you not always shoot raw?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

    Thanks.

I switched back to jpg last week because I'm back shooting fast action sports. I mentioned it in the sequence shot thread.

I like the texture in this, but I probably could have done with a slightly less shallow DoF.

:) Aww thanks! I fell asleep Saturday at 6pm and woke at 2am so decided to head to Sandycove to try some long exposure shots (at 5am, not 2am!). It was my first attempt but I'm happy with them at that.
Really like your Radcliffe Camera shot last page!

Here's one from Mahon Falls yesterday.

    2445987007_60ee5322ac.jpg

hdr'd in photomatix from a single RAW file. Nikon capture nx was able to generate a bunch of different exposure levels from the one raw. Apparently that means its not really HDR but its good enough for me - looks a hell of a lot better than it did straight off the camera.

    click for flickr page.

How the hell do I get to RAW in my 450D, read the manual but hell I'm stumped!

You probably need to shoot either fully M, Av or Tv at the very least. When you do that, under the menu configuration there should be some option like Picture quality which will give you the option for different jpg compressions and RAW. That's how it is on the 350D and also on the 400D I think.

    Lovely, what Lense was that?
Also I notice from the file on flickr you used spot for metering?
I'm new to Macro and is that better for shooting that close?

The lense is the Canon EF-S 60mm macro with a couple of Canon extension tubes attached. I think the reasons to apply spot metering are the same weather shooting macro or any other style. With spot metering you are trying to meter off the most neutral tone in view, IE 18% grey.

For the image below you can see the background is way over exposed. IMO this didn't really matter. I was only really interested in focusing on and exposing the fly properly. Luckily it worked out ok, me thinks.... :)

They were taken at the end of the Mill Road in Corbally (Limerick) there are always a lot of swans, ducks and other birds in the area.

I would love to know what you guys think as these are some of the first shot I have taken with my Nikon D80!!! I've near used a DSLR before this!!! :D Plus, I have never really taken landscapes/waterscapes/ before either!!!
