Can I make a suggestion for a Vegas '08 sticky to handle all things Vegas for the summer because lots of these threads are going to pop up.

Anyway, there doesn't seem to be much interest in the boards house, and as much as I like my comfort I'd rather save as much money as possible since this year the Vegas trip is mainly on business. 3 months is not that long away now so I want to get things organised.

I'm probably going for 3 weeks landing a week before the main event. around the 26th to the 17th. If enough people aren't interested in sharing the house the next option is a cheap hotel. It's very hard to pick one out in Vegas because there are so many ****-holes,

Terrible's Hotel and Casino has some good reviews and it's cheap. Has anyone stayed there? Does anyone have any other suggestions for cheap accommodation?

Vegas hotels aren't that expensive, spending 1k for 3 weeks in a nice hotel isn't exactly going overboard, esp if you're going mainly on business. 1k shouldn't be that much money to you.

Well, basically my problem is I don't know what most of the hotels are like, and I've heard a lot of nightmare stories, and read some horrific reviews on-line. Money is not the main issue but since it's a business trip I'd rather go for some where cheaper as long as it's a clean/nice/safe place to stay.

I will create one in the subforum to cover satellites and general discussion, much like the IO thread that was there.

Countless 2+2 threads on this. I guess the irish input is nice though.

Id be interested to hear as well.Guess it depends how close you want to be to the rio etc... you should probably specify this and what someone considers budget others might consider expensive.

Id be looking for somewhere which sleeps 3 and is no more than $80-90 for the room, as il be in travelling for 4 weeks by the time i hit vegas.

I spent a lot of time looking at all well situated Strip hotels very recently cause I'm heading over in 2 weeks. If you want to be right in the middle of the action, close to the Rio, cheaper than most, but yet still a decent hotel then I recommend Bill's Gambling Hall (used to be Barbary Coast). It's smaller so you don't have to spend an hour getting to your room.

Take a couple of hours to check out the hotels yourself, here's a good list with a decent map and irreverent reviews:

Then go to old reliable tripadvisor for reviews (as one should always do), making sure to read many reviews from the past few months (some people are just moaning bastards), and for links to sites will sell the rooms at discounts.

Keep in mind the price of taxis each day if you stay on the strip, especially if your hotel is at the far end(Luxor direction).
Add these on to any hotel price if you are not going to stay in the RIO.

Also I found the best breakfast/brunch or lunch was at Ellis Island(1 block back from the strip, less than 5mins in a taxi from the Rio). Cooked to order, average about $3-6 for just about anything(inc steak) and you get a free $5 blackjack bet when you bet $5.:D:D

The Orleans is a good cheap hotel off the strip (but close to the Rio). Has a newly renovated poker room with 40+ tables and offer an extra 30% off the rate if you play poker an average of 4 hours per day (plus hourly comp rate which can also be used). If you are going for the poker rate don't book via a website but just phone up directly - can't get the rate if you use hotels.com etc.

Orleans also has a cinema (17 screens), bowling alley, sports arena and concert rooms. Only downside is the 10-11 dollar taxi ride to the strip - but they do have a shuttle bus to its sister hotels.

I agree that the orleans is hard to beat. Great value, big rooms, loads of places to eat, good poker room and a shuttle bus to the strip or to the Gold Coast which is right beside the Rio.

Check these sites out before you book some great offers available for most hotels

New Thread I came accross that intelligently discusses Hotels in Las Vegas (2+2)

Las Vegas Hotels - Luxurious to Cheap

I would have just reprinted the Post Here...but I thought some of the responses might be helpful as well

This is where I stayed two years ago and was pretty happy with it. The poker room was very well run and there was always action in it it but rarely anything above $1-$2. The only complaint I had was that I had a **** room but I probably should have made sure I got a better one.

I'm finding it hard too see past the Orleans at the moment.

    yes tripadvisor rules.

Stayed there for a month, its ok.

Pros - location, Bellagio, Ceasars, Ballys shuttle to Rio all minutes walk away
price, think I paid around $25 a night over the course of 30nights.

Cons - you cant relax in your room, suites are vital, you really need a couple of chairs and tables to chill out/ have a home game.
Foods **** but loads of decent places within walking distance
The smell of flamingos really starts to grate
Add around $15 a day if you want internet
    Poker rooms ****
casinos a dump, quickly gets depressing walking around it
