I got my new 45nm E8500 delivered today. Soon as I came home from work I removed the older QX6850 and replaced it with the new chip. Straight off the bat i've got it @ 3.56GHZ. Mobo is the Evga 680i A1 and cooling is handled by a Tuniq Tower. Anyone else running this chip and how far do you think it should clock? :)

    is goin from a QX6850 to a e8500 not a bit of a downgrade.....

also, u should comfortably be gettin 4Ghz outta that chip without breakiin a sweat

Yes and no.......I'm building a new rig with a QX9650 (with a 9770 to come) so I don't need 2 quadcore rigs. Also...the E8500 is my first foray into 45nm processing. Only got the chip yesterday so i'm gonna break it in gently ;):)

I laughed at this for five entire minutes. Still gives me giggles when I read it.

My years of senseless spam finally paid off, One happy customer :D

Running 3.8GHZ with max temps of ~50 degrees....that'll do me for now. My QX9650 will take me over the 4GHZ hurdle ;):)

  • Subscribers Posts: 6,408 ✭✭✭conzy

50 degrees is very low... I used to load 60-65degrees on my E4300

    MOAR!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice, are you stable at that? How are your max temps?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭Nforce

Yep stable.....max temp is now 55 degrees :D. I might try pushing it a little further but i've to change my ram first...methinks i've fried some of my PC8500.:p

    Would 4.2GHZ be possible with PC6400? :)

What do you use to check stability?
Can we get, lets say: a Wprime 1024 score?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭Nforce

I used Everest's benchmarking tool to check stability.
Just ran Wprime 1024M and got 638.171s ..... that any good?

Not enough unless you left the Everest burn in test running for 24hrs, run OCCT, orthos or prime 95 torture tests to maxmise cores. Its not full stable until you pass at least 24hrs. I'm a fan of OCCT, it what i find most effective for stress testing, seems to produce fails quicker than the other 2.

    Wprime 1024M score... here

Don't think I can get much more out of this chip without watercooling. Max temps are around 65 degrees with vcore @ 1.4V. Haven't run those other benching tools, just Everest....though PC remains stable and runs games perfectly:)

just bench it short uses of prime/orthos to make sure its stable and when temps hit around 80c stop , i want to see what that baby will do.

3dmark 06 for the craic and 8+ hours of OCCT to be sure to be sure

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭Nforce

Never really tried 3DMark much tbh...as I don't think it reflects real world pc usage? To run it would I need to reformat this system?.....something I want to avoid really as i've tonnes of programs installed:) Might give it a go when i've my new rig up and running.
System specs as of now :

Intel E8500 (lightly overclocked;):D ) and cooled by a Tuniq Tower
    Evga 680i Sli mobo
    1kw PSU
    4GB of PC6400 memory
    2x 150GB Raptor hdd
    2x Seagate 500gb hdd
    2x Evga 8800 Ultra
