Gluten/Wheat/Dairy free diets

    Hello, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best way to go about being checked for gluten/wheat/dairy intolerance?? I have always experienced bad bloating when I eat and pains but the pains got very bad about a year and a half ago, I went to the doctor and was told I have IBS (without having any tests done). I also had a blood test for coeliacs which showed up negative. However, at the time I was eating a lot of gluten free foods anyway so would this have affected the results? Consequently before christmas I was admitted to hospital for a weekend..sever stomach pains. They dismissed the notion of IBS. Had 2 scans both of which showed up nothing...4 months later still waiting an appointment for a scope but to be honest I dont hold out much hope. So I was thinking of looking more into certain types of diets myself and was wondering could anyone tell me where I could get tests done? Ideally without having to go to a doctor first..would much prefer to be able to go direct to a diet specialist but dont know where to find one. Pains/bloatedness/nausea tend to follow all heavy foods/ hig carb or starchy foods/ chocolate/ beer/ all carbonated drinks. Dunno where else to go now..so any help would be greatly appreciated!     Can't tell you where to go for good tests, but it sounds like you should be on a keto/very low carb diet. Base your meals on eggs, fish, meat, lots of green veg, some nuts and olive oil etc, and you should see a difference. Once you are used to the diet (first few days can be very rough), you can try bringing back a suspect food and see what happens.

    Possibly. Bear in mind that I am not a doctor, but I am a coeliac. However, the only way to be absolutely certain is to have an endoscopy performed on the gut wall. This will confirm or deny for certain. See here and here for more information.

    People can have wheat intolerances, but not be coeliac. This is due to the mechanics of how the coeliac disease affects the body (It is an autoimmune disorder). So if you are not a coeliac, you should seek allergy testing from a doctor as well. It can be tricky to pin down the cause of symptoms like yours as they don't clearly point to one thing in particular.

    How did you fare when you followed a gluten-free diet? Did you notice an improvement in your symptoms?

    As I cook the vast majority of my food, I eat a fairly healthy, low-carb diet. This has worked wonders for me, no stomach trouble and actually losing weight.

    certain things can effect it, i went for 3 blood tests on it and one came back negative, at the time like you i was on a lot of gulten free foods, but it could have been a number of factors. As dudara said the only way of really knowing is with a endoscopy.
