Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Tony in eirsoft has a nice tasco 3-9 x 40 scope for 30quid, I have the same one on my aug and its dam good sight for €30 http://www.eirsoft.ie/store/product_info.php?cPath=36&products_id=30

He also has a set of low profile scope mounts for a fiver http://www.eirsoft.ie/store/product_info.php?cPath=36&products_id=33

For 35quid ya really cant go wrong. I'm open to correction on this but I think ya need to get a rail for the top of a G3 to take a scope..

From what I can see I need an MP5/G3 mount for the SG1 but I'm not sure what scope will go with this.

I think that scope would go well with a G3-SG1, I have one on my L96 with a sun shade and all. Its a really good scope for the price.

There is a high mount and a low mount, would I need the high one or would either do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

Either would do. The high mount gives you enough clearance to see your iron sights under your scope for use close in (CQB, quick firing etc). The low mount doesn't give you that option but gives less deflection between the barrel and the scope, making it more accurate, though in airsoft the difference is negligable.

Both mounts give you a 20mm weaver mount section onto which you can mount any scope using standard scope rings.

You will not find mounts/scope rings/torches cheaper than what
dealextreme are currently selling them for. I haven't picked up any
scopes from them but the mounts and torches are brilliant for the price.
Also good for rechargeable cr123 batteries and if I ever end up on a
night skirmish I'll be using a Q5 LED on a mount.

What else do I need to put on the scope, the mount, the scope, scope rings, anything else? What type of rings do I need for this mount?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

As I said, either the high or low Claw Mounts will work for the G3. After that you'll just need regular scope rings that suit your scope. So if you're scope has a 25mm throat (the tube section that runs between either lens) then you need a pair of 25mm mountings. Simple as that.
Many scopes come with mountings but if they don't the store will tell you what size mountings you need.

Just be careful, I ordered an M16 handle rail and a scope off them a month ago, got the rail about 2 weeks later but for the scope all I got was a little card saying it was out of stock.
No way of knowing when its back in stock as their website claims the whole order has shipped.
Now I've used them plenty of times before with no hassle, but looking at the comments on the scopes they seem to have a problem with them, with some of them being out of stock for months at this stage.

Hi dex or anybody, thanks for the advice, i have selected this mount and scope, do you think they would fit together. The scope seems to have rings on it however I am not sure of that is just in the picture, I cant find a description.

Can anybody tell me a combination that will work. I am just a complete novice regarding scopes etc, havent got a clue.
    Thanks.

Both of those seem fine from what they say (though info is quite sparse).

Personally I'd go with a scope with a large forelens but with the same magnification. Something like a 3-8x30 would be sufficient. That one is 3-7x20 which is fine but provides a slightly narrower field of vision. Again, that's personal choice.

It says nothing about whether mounts come with it or not but given that they're pictured I assume they do. If not, mounts can be picked up in any of the Irish retailers for €5-10 anyway.

It does look like that scope comes with the ring monts already installed alright. If thats the case it will screw directly onto the claw clamp that you need to fixed to your SG1.

As Dex said the scope does seem a tad on the small side with regard to the sight picture. Most airsoft scopes are 30mm, mine is a 40mm and the larger aperature will allow more light in and give you a more clear image especially in low light and overcast conditions.

How about this scope, from what it says the tube diameter is 23mm, does this mean I need a 23mm ring or would 25mm do. I cant find 23mm rings on the net so I am assuming they do not exist.
Is the zooming feature on scopes a bit of a gimick that adds to the cost or is it usefull. Would a non zooming scope for the same price be better?

It depends on what you want to use it for. A 40mm forelens on a scope is quite large for a G3 where all you want is something with a bit more range on it. But again, thats personal choice. Have a look on a measuring tape at 40mm then add another 5mm for the casing and you have an idea of how big it would be. That one is also quite long.
Zoom is handy but you'll find yourself rarely using it in airsoft. Apart from range not requiring long zoom, you'll rarely have time to adjust.

Try this one or this one. I'd recommend something like this for a G3. Fixed zoom at 4x is plenty for airsoft and just right for a G3's range. It's a nice tidy unit that will fit well on the claw mount and look like it belongs with the G3. The fixed 4x zoom is also plenty for longer ranged engagements, as well as medium range. Both come with their own scope rings and they both have 32mm forelenses which will give a nice field of vision without being too bulky.

Edit: Actually that second one says doesn't come with scope mounts but they're pictured as coming in the package so I'd say they do. If not, they're only 25mm mounts anyway so you'd have no trouble picking them up.

I like the first one, the second seems to be out of stock anyway. So if I buy these two things I should be sorted, is that correct or is there anything else I need.

No I think between the two of those you should be pretty much sorted. In the unlikely event that they come without rings (as far as I can tell they come with them) you can pick them up from any Irish airsoft retailer without any bother.

The claw mount looks better than the one I use on my G3-SG1. Mine was a right $%^$% to install.
