Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

so, anyone pick this game up? I had been sort of interested in it and its getting the widest ranging review scores i've seen - going from the 50s on some sites to the 90s on others! Average seems to be about 72. Anyone play it? What are your thoughts on it?

I got it yesterday, it's pretty good, lots of dismemberment! some parts of the game are a little slow but the combat and the graphics are good enough. A good purchase but by no means essential!

I went and picked it up this afternoon - I think it's great so far. I'm nearly finished the 1st island. Its great pulling off some of those kills, they're awesomely satisfying!

It gets better the more you play it anyway!

I think it is anyway - I'm having a blast with it.

I normally put great store in Eurogamer reviews, and I'm really glad I got this game before Eurogamer published their 5/10 review yesterday as it may have put me off buying it and I would have missed out on great fun altogether.

There's hundreds and hundreds of comments under that review too saying it was way too harsh.

Yeah, I've noticed that it's gotten fairly middle of the road reviews, but can't see why it's scoring so low. It is repetative, but for what it is, it's great fun.

I'm of the same opinion as regards to Eurogamer reviews generally, but that was a really harsh review as far as i'm concerned. They are not infallible though! they gave Earth Defence Force 2017 9/10 & Call Of Juarez 8/10 and i think they are both sh1t really (yes i tried both) neither as good as Viking by a stretch!

    Is it strategy or adventure?

Earth Defence Force is godly. I'll cut anyone who says otherwise. CUT.

Adventure I guess. You're an immortal Viking hero who roams around an open world undertaking various missions to rescue your chums with the goal of amassing a large enough army to siege the local enemy city, at which point you engage in a massive LOTR-style battle with hundreds and hundreds of troops on screen. You don't control any of the troops though, you're still just one person among all these hundreds. You can direct dragons on "bombing runs" though. The battles are pretty epic i think.

Hmm, I'm stuck on this now and looking for a bit of help.

After the battle for Thornvik on the 3rd island, I've freed the lumber mill to the north of the town. There's the large gatehouse blocking the mountain pass to the east of the town and map icon on it just says to find a way to open the gates.

I'm stumped here. There doesn't seem to be any areas you can climb / scale. There's just one lonesome respawning guard that walks up and down outside.

    What am I missing?

Its hardly the most cerebral of games so I'm betting its something really stupidly obvious.

I know the part you mean cos it had me stumped for a bit too! I can't give you a totally accurate description at the mo cos i'm at work and can't see a map but i know it involves getting up high somewhere around one side of the gate and attacking it from the top and working your way down through it then you can use a lever to open the gates.

I'll have a look later & give a better description the moro if you're still stuck! nearly on the final battle myself! good craic!
