207th Merseyside Derby

    Well I'm hoping for a much better performance from Liverpool tomorrow after last weeks lack-lustre display against Man Utd.

    We're looking for the double over Everton this season and with Torres strike rate at home in the Prem this season, I'll reckon we'll do it.
    With Mascherano out, Rafa will probably bring in Lucas and keep the same formation of late.
    Might see Sami starting. He scored an own goal at Goodison but I think he's being one of our best defenders this season.
    Everton will always pose a danger with Arteta, Yakubu is on a bit of a run and Lescott always a danger from corners.
    Johnson is a doubt and Cahill will be missed by Everton.

    Predictions and thoughts?

    Not losing is all that matters - a win would be nice but not essential since we're definitely only fighting for 4th now. Just need to keep a steady lead over Everton so the boys don't panic during the run-in like the bunch of girls they are.

    i see a stalemate in the making. both teams priorities will be not to lose rather than going for the win.

    nice wee blues double in derby's today would suit me down to the ground...

    What? Its the 207th derby already?! :pac:

    Here's hoping the Everton missing will be more important than the absent Mascherano.

    I fully expect a 4-4-2 with Torres and Kuyt up front.

    Mike.

    Would like to see Crouchy in for this one, he is a handful and will be looking to score to prove a point.

    An Everton win or even a draw would suit me, but I wont be putting big money on it!

    If Rafa does go for 4-4-2, I'd like to see a Torres/Crouch partnership up front.

    We need to win this to give ourselves some breathing room. If we progress in the CL then we don't want the distraction of having to fight on two fronts. It would also allow Rafa scope to rest players for the Arsenal league game without risking too much.

    Me too. I wonder has Rafa been saving Crouch for the 'business-end' of the season? Also Crouch has a good record against Arsenal.

    I can see a Everton draw, because of Liverpool being dodgyish at the back, but I think its totally open.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,904 ✭✭✭DeadSkin

    The Liverpool line-up in full is: Reina, Carragher, Hyypia, Skrtel, Riise, Lucas, Alonso, Gerrard, Kuyt, Torres, Babel. Subs: Itandje, Finnan, Benayoun, Crouch, Pennant.

    Riise in :eek:.

    Is this down to injuries, or is someone dropped?

    Finnan is on the bench and I know he's comin' back from injury. I hope the reason Riise is in is because of an injury! Says on 'pools webpage that Aurelio/Arbeloa miss out!?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

    I thought Carra was very exposed last weekend, to be fair.

    Is Aurelio or Arbeloa the other RB? I didn't think he did much wrong last week tbh, which ever of them it is.

    Strange one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,909 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

    Very surprised that Arbeloa drops below Finnan and misses out altogether. I think he's been one of 'pool's best players in recent months.

    I am not a fan of either side, but would like to see Everton win, and play in Europe for a change.

    * 16 Jagielka
    * 05 Lescott
    * 06 Arteta
    * 18 Neville
    * 26 Carsley
    * 20 Pienaar
    * 21 Osman
    * 22 Yakubu

    Substitutes

    * 33 Wessels,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,909 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

    Pienaar in, Neville plays in midfield, Cahill out, Yobo at centre half and Lescott left full for Baines. That's all I know so far.

    Great moment there on the commentary, when redknapp is trying to make a point, and the others are just saying stuff about why Carragher is good, until the everton lad (i think its taylor) says 'gets away with penalties', and Redknapp just keeps going, 'yeh, yeh, and also ... wait a minute'

    Hilarious :)

    Liverpool don't want to score. WHat's gona happen is that they'll play crap for the rest of the game, Everton will equalise, Gerrard will then decide to score in the 93rd minute, confirming his status as a hero.

    You post similar every time Liverpool play.

    Good world cup imo. Check out the E Germany > W Germany goal. Or basically anything the Dutch do. Emotional.

    AND WHY CAN GERRARD'S SHOT NOT BE A COUPLE OF CENTIMETERS TO THE RIGHT PLEASE??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,411 ✭✭✭shotamoose

    Babel looks low on confidence, he needs a few things to go right for him then he might be really impressive. Or not, I dunno.

    Everton surprisingly poor so far, can't go on like this for the whole match I'd have thought.
