Would getting petitions signed make any difference or are individual objections the way to go about things? We could start collecting signatures and petitioning the local council.

You know the priests house and the creche buildings by the gate are apparently going to be part of the next phase - apparently the church has already promised to sell the priests house to the developers if they get planning permission for a road/junction at the gates. How would we go about trying to get the priests house listed as a protected building or is that a possibility - I heard that the Connollys' built it and gave it as a gift to the church. It would be worth looking into the history of those buildings and trying to get it listed, or if that failed, appealing directly to the church.

Clm, the most effective way to stop this development is to send an Objection to this Planning Application to Kildare Co. Council. Petitions wouldn't help at this stage. The deadline is tomorrow week, Thursday 16th July 2009, 4pm.

The Parochial House (Parish Priest's house) at the corner of The Slip on the Main Street is already a Protected Structure, listed in the Record of Protected Structures (RPS). According to the developers' plans, they stated that they haven't been able to get permission from the owners to apply for planning permission for this land, to build the road bridge through the grounds, which are also protected. Nevertheless, they are still trying to get away with it, and could succeed unless enough people object.

Several people have said that the Parochial House was 'given to the people'. It certainly would be interesting to find out if this is true.

Just a reminder that the deadline for objections for Donaghcumper 09/665, described above, is the day after tomorrow - Thursday 16th July 2009, 4pm.

Councillors have already voted 5-2 against plans to extend the town centre across the river, but Junior Housing Minister Damien English says he may use his powers to push through with the development.

These wouldn't be Main Street trader-led objections, would they?
