By any chance god's toy do you have a separate username and password? I have and was wondering is the stats page only working for those that have the same username and password?

Yep my username is NOT the same as my password.

    Could have something there...

My stats page was broken for over a year but decided to work again in the last few months. We got broadband when it was still IOL (late 2004), and we have a password different to our username (might have been done over the phone - I forget).

I have the "You have exceeded your download limit for this month!" warning (25GB down - cap is 20GB), but I'm not being throttled and never have been (this is the most I've ever gone over though... well when the thing's working). So maybe somewhere around 100GB is their "real" cap? :)

Jaysus lads, you guys on the LLU product by chance?

I know I've gone right thru the supposed 30gig cap but 100gigs in a month I haven't got close to. Barely touched 150gigs total tbh.

Least I know they throttle. Let us know if ya get charged as well. kthxbye

jsut checked and iv downloaded 19.95gbs this month :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Just checked mine there (my password was my username as well), at 60g so far so not too bad actually, downloaded about 30 of that in the past 2 or 3 days....most of it will be done tonight so won't really be using much next month. I would go insane if I was throttled to 12k/12k...

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,070 ✭✭✭Placebo

mines not the same as my username either

plus my username is still @iolbb not that new btbb

yeah i'm on the LLU product. Whats odd is that even when I was on my 2Mb line my monthly usage was about the same as now. I just left my PC on for a lot longer. So methinks there is something else afoot at BT. There has to be some reason why they haven't increased the usage to 80GB on the 8Mb lines. Also it seems a lot of people I know on the LLU are getting throttled also.

Have the 2mb line. Been throttled for the past few days. Have gone over the 20gb cap but I wouldn't say by a massive amount. Maximum 30gb. Thought you really had to take the piss to get throttled with bt?

I think I've had BB for almost 10 years now and I still scratch my head at these threads.

What the f*ck do you be doing that requires 120GB a month.

    Seriously.

There's only so many films you can watch/music you can listen to games you can play etc

wtf do you need to be grabbing 120gb a month?

stop jacking off and get out of the house.

How do you know you are on the LLU package? Is it just you can tell from the exchange?

120GB a month, every month is a bit excessive. However it's quite feasible to find out about a TV Show and leech all it's seasons (at roughly 8GB a season and let's say 5 seasons thats 40GB). Or if you're the type of person to wait until a season finishes before downloading so you can gorge away then periodically (May and October usually if you follow the US TV schedule) you can download entire seasons of lots of shows (e.g. 24, LOST, BSG, House etc etc) which will easily put you onto dangerous ground.

This is just using TV shows as an example, if you're into your DVDR's or HD-rips then the same thing will apply. It's very easy if you download illegal movies/tv shows/games to reach 120GB. A bit harder if it were music or applications but not impossible.

So there, that's what you could be doing to reach 120GB, and note I didn't even include porn.

I hate when people say that stuff, it's not constructive and forces posts like mine

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,396 ✭✭✭✭kaimera

But that assumes that you're able to get a reasonable constant download speed for said season and it doesn't take 4 weeks to come down :(

The warning is not valid as I'm on the 3Meg package and have not exceeded the limit of 30G!

I am also on the 3 Mb service and got the same when it went over 20GB (only a few times) when it should be 30GB. Back when the checker used to work. I'm not worried about it anyway.

It does count. I was told this only yesterday by BT.

So the OP has gone over his limit by neary 100gigs

I know the OP personally so I took a pic of his arm. Looks like about 100gigs worth of working out alright...
I don't think his connection will let him see this so... :pac::pac::pac::pac::pac:

Edit: Awh picture got removed :(

The 30gig limit counts both ways, so I'm guessing the upload of which you blocked out brings you over the 30 gig mark. This does show something quite worrying though, unless you have been uploading scary amounts (can't tell because you have it blanked out) you should just be slightly over the limit. Which means that it might be a blanket throttling of everyone over the limit even if you are just barely over.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 286 ✭✭Blindpew

I have been throttled since Thursday night but have found that even at 15kbs
I have downloaded over 2.5 gbs. I could probably go over a 30gb cap at this speed in a month. I can't understand why BT are now offering 8mb speeds, to people in selected areas, if they don't allow you to use it. I would think that a 500gb cap might be closer to what's needed. The same company offers unlimited access in England.
People that ask what could you be downloading to use that much bandwidth have no need for broadband and should be a dial up forum.

It gives you that warning as soon as you go over the limit. Doesn't throttle you until you're well over.

BlackWizard, your post has been edited because your image was too large and broke tables, if you want to show people large images link to them instead

Ah I see thanks for pointing that out.

edit- Cabaal did I do something wrong on my previous post that it warranted editing? Just asking because there is a last edited by Cabaal on it.

Call BT Tech Support and ask them to change your Option Package to 3mb, that's all.

BTs cap has been thought to constrain people from using their all bandwidth, connections speed are around 128/160 kbps thats a total daily constant download rate of more or less 1 gb per day, which per month goes up to a total of 30 gb. Blindpew speed doesnt not go along usage.

For normal people 30 gb is more than enough, as I said I agree that 60 would be better but I consider myself a heavy user, meaning that I download what I want and I rarely reach 60 gB. In fact, this month I have given it a "normal" usage and I have barely hit the barrier of 10 gB.

And my connection is way over 8mb.
