hey, i am going to egypt next month. Im woundering, how did the money go, is it cheap, expencive.....could u give me some idea, on how much id need for 2weeks....?? I have heard its a tad dangours, is it...?

If you want to do it cheaply, it should be very easy. I spent 150 EUR in 6 days there (not including accommodation). I was only in Cairo, but on a day-to-day basis, it felt very safe. Much safer than in Dublin, day or night. Didn't feel safe in the taxis though - mad driving!

One thing that I found a little bit unnerving was the way there were a lot of people trying to hustle you, they would make stories up and couldn't be trusted at all. But in my experience, when you actually needed someone's help, if you just approached a normal person in a shop or something they'd be fine.

Where abouts are you going? Sharm El Sheik is more expensive than Cairo/Luxor, even in terms of food/drink at the supermarkets.

Are you planning on doing excursions?

We got breakfast at the hotel too, and in total we spent about €600ish each for food/drink for the week.

Yeah roughly. However, one evening we didn't eat in Sharm and ate in Cairo, which was a bit cheaper. Should be fine on €2500 for two weeks tbh.

Oh and also, neither of us are heavy drinkers. Would have between 1-3 drinks during/after dinner, maybe one more on the night we went out but generally I just had a few drinks before heading out with some booze I got at the duty free.

You will be struggling to spend your money bringing €2,500. We brought €1,000 each and couldn't spend it all in the end. And as per my previous post, we did a lot of trips.

Brilliant , but I would rather bring more than not have enough. So il bring the 2500 just in case ! Thanks for all your advice guys !

I know this comment was way back but just to let you know that Egypt is very safe for women on their own. No one will do anything to you but be prepared to be whistled at, talked to incessantly and constantly asked about your 'husband'. I backpacked on my own (female 25) for 3 months and sometimes the hawkers would get to you, especially in Luxor but they don't get offended when you just walk by them. Sharm and Naram Bay are luxury resorts that Egyptains don't live in. A bit like coming to Ireland for 2 weeks and staying in Dromoland Castle with guided day trips out to villages. Egypt is an amazing country and so cheap. I loved Aswan and Abu Simbel but even in March I found it very hot in the south; couldn't even imagine the heat in the summer, I think i'd evaporate!

The 600 just covered food and drink for the week. All the trips were additional but were booked and paid for before we went. We did spend some money on food for the trips though, but 3 of the 5 days we had lunch on a trip which was already paid for and not included in the 600.

Hey JackieO, how was your stay in Sharm?

Oh it was fab. Seems like a life time ago now though. Hotel was gorgeous and really enjoyed all the facilities. Didn't have any complaints apart from the Mosquitos.

We upgraded to the Royal Wing on arrival and were delighted with that as it was only an extra 20Euros a night whereas the travel agent had quoted us €250 for the week!

When we were there the hotel was very quiet - as it was off-peak but that was fine for us.

Didn't have a single bad experience with food and I have quite a sensitive stomach.

Regarding taxis - they weren't nearly as bad as I expected at all. I didn't really feel unsafe on any occassion. Was surprised by the good standard of the few roads in Sharm - I was half expecting dirt tracks.

We didn't do any trips as such so we just had a lazy week in the hotel which was bliss.

I'd definately recommend it to anyone.

    Planning the next one now!
