Saw this morning that the site is closed - something to do with bad publicity. Anyone know what happened?

    Original Message:
Due to a recent 'leak' to the press, frequencydb.com has received a torrent of bad publicity in the last 24hrs, from Newspaper reports to Radio stations.

It now looks like the site's closure is imminent and have had to remove the database already. We are not sure exactly how long the site will remain active for. On this note, the Moderators & Administrators would like to thank each and every member who has contributed over the years, to both the Forums and the Database, which was undoubtedly the most comprehensive in Ireland.
    A BIG THANK YOU!

We have retained the email addresses of each member, so if it is at all possible we will have a new site up & running over the coming months - watch this space.....!
Thanks for your support & co-operation.

    From today's paper:
A highly controversial Internet website that lists all radio frequencies of An Garda Siochana, was slammed today by the Garda Commissioner Fiachna (note misspelling)Murphy.

The website, http://www.frequencydb.com believed to be owned and operated by a Cork man, also lists hundreds of other sensitive frequencies such as Security Companies and Shopping Centres etc. A common ‘radio scanner’ purchased for as little as €80, enables those involved in crime to monitor these frequencies and know what the Gardai are doing.
“We were appalled at the amount of information that was freely available,” stated the Commissioner, when interviewed last night by the Irish Independent.
“We have contacted the Internet service provider and are in the process of having the site closed down”.

The database of hundreds of Irish radio frequencies are listed within the site, however only exclusive ‘members’ receive access to the Database. “This has worked to our benefit”, said the Commissioner, “It now allows us to trace each and every member – so we can compile a comprehensive list of who has possession of this information and identify those who may use it to their advantage”.
He added: “Possession of a radio Scanner, although not illegal, does raise some questions as to why an individual would wish to listen to Garda frequencies. It is our aim to retrieve as many radio scanners as possible from the users of this site; however Phase 3 of the Digital network is due to be rolled out in January 2009, which will put a stop to this once and for all”.

The Garda radio system came under fire some months ago, when a Vigilante rang RTE’s Joe Duffy show, claiming that he regularly assisted in the apprehension of criminals by cycling around the City centre whilst listening to Garda frequencies on his radio scanner.

    @ umbro
It's enough to post something once.

Regarded as "bad form" to double post.
