Is holding deposit normal?

    Hi,
    we have been asked to place a holding deposit with the letting agent while the landlord checks our references. Is this normal practice?

    It's not unheard of, though I've never had to do it. Provided the EA is from an established outift and they give you a receipt I wouldn't worry too much.
