Outside joint

Quick question - my uncle has a joint on a 1.5 TWE cable which runs from a small fuse board in his main shed to a smaller tool shed where he stores meal etc. The cable is over head and was broken some years ago and rejoined in a box - something like an obo box but tougher. He fit it with two plastic glands as he was told but there is 2 small holes in the back of the box like as if someone drill them to mount it to some thing. Only recently with the wind a small amount of water has gotten into the box. He got a underground joint kit - with the resin. I/he was wondering if he could just fill the existing joint box with the resin and then tape it tight would this be ok and would it save him the trouble of making up the plastic joint that came with the kit? Also are the standard cable connectors ok to use with the resin?
