Do i need a licence for an air rifle?

Where can i buy an air rifle south side dublin?

Anything i should know about the laws and sales involved?

Thanks in advance guys and girls

You need a License for an air-rifle currently its 38 Euros per year.
You need to ring your local Garda station and ask for the Firearms officer
who will help you fill out correct paperwork.

You need to be a member of a Club before your get a licence
(or go the farmers licence landowers route but not sure about this)

I would not mention anything about shooting out your back garden!

I think someone mentioned a few days ago if you use an air-rifle indoors target shooting
and its done in a safe manner that it was still Legal.

If you only want to do real casual backyard plinking at paper targerts and are not
too concerned with accuracy you could pick up an airsoft gun!!
There are several Irish online retailers some in Dublin area.
They are not considered firearms if they are under 1j on energy. And if used responsibly
(ie not scareing the ****e out of the neighbours by waving a gun like object around the place)
are a lot of fun. Although different sport to shooting!

Yes, you need a license. Apply at your local Garda station. The process will probably work something like this:
    1. Select air rifle, pay deposit, get serial number.
    2. Apply for license in the local Garda station and provide the serial number.
    3. Wait.
    4. Receive license, go to dealer and pay for the rifle.
    5. Enjoy.

Plinking in your back garden may or may not be OK. See this thread for details.

As far as I know there's no strict requirement for this.

However, the Gardai may require it and it's a good idea to join a club first anyway. You'll get plenty of advice on what rifle will suit you best.

    I never knew that!

My FO would not even meet me until I could supply him
    with my Club membership number.

Well, there's no requirement for club membership set down in law (as far as I know) but I would be very surprised if a Super didn't require it. For an air rifle they might overlook it but I'd still be a bit surprised.

Thanks for the help guys. Is there any clubs on the soutside of the city and how much are they to join?

Overall how much would the gun and club membership and everything cost?

    Thanks again

For airguns, the nearest two clubs to you are the two university clubs in Trinity and UCD. If you're a student or alumnus of either they'd be the cheapest and most convenient for you.

After that, the next nearest clubs I know that do airgun stuff are Rathdrum and Wilkinstown.

There's a list of clubs and ranges on the boards.ie wiki and I've tried to map as many clubs as I know the location for.
