Course ? There is a set of instructions on the inside of the Little Green Box which you can now buy in most Hardware stores. Anything more is really just for show.... Are you now boycotting hospitals ?

There is plenty of providers of First Aid Training courses around the country, having said that the €450 course sounds to me to be an Occupational First Aid Course. There are cheaper providers of the course out there and like everything it pays to shop around.

Did you learn anything about recognition of death?

This thread was down for more than 3 years, resuscitation probably wasn't indicated.

Occupational First Aid should cost less than €200 that is a FETAC level 5
Basic should be €75 per person

Occupational first aid courses are going to cost more because the certs cost the trainer about 65 euro for each person on the course (if you get a FETAC cert and an Irish Heart Foundation cert). Plus the courses are 3 days long, and usually involve bringing in an external examiner to assess candidates and to deliver the CPR component. That's why they tend to be 330 euro+.

If you want something cheaper ask your training provider specifically for a course that's not FETAC/IHF accredited. That way you can get a cert issued by the trainer themselves, which reduces his/her overheads dramatically and therefore the cost.

Most training companies will run one day courses on basic first aid and CPR for about 75euro per person. Some will do it even cheaper. Almost all will give group discounts, so see if a few mates/colleagues want to do a course too. if you have a premises in work etc where the course can take place, that will further reduce costs for you.

But make sure CPR is included in any course you do. And make sure you're learning the newest guidelines, as it's one of the few proper potentially life saving skills you can learn quickly.
