Does anyone know why there were so many Gardaí on campus today? They seemed to be everywhere. I saw someone getting a Garda escort out around 2pm, so I assume that has something to do with it.

Bertie Ahern was giving a talk in the clinton auditorium. I saw him leaving after it.

Ah right. Does he really need all the Gardaí? He's barely even Taoiseach anymore :p

He was coming out the side entrance of the Astra Hall (I think that's what it's called) before just as I was walking by. Flanked by three big lads on either side making a little human corridor for him to walk safely to his car. Kinda cool.

All former taoisigh enjoy security around their house and person. They're also provided with a car and a Garda driver for the rest of their lives.

He'll have garda protection for the rest of his life as an ex-taoiseach AFAIK.

/edit: Chakar beat me to it.
