Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What song provokes you the most emotionally? All general emotions like happiness, sadness, anger, jealousy etc.
I have ulterior motives for this thread. I am looking to reach out into new areas of music and this seems like a good way to skip all the rubbish released every year.

I would put forward the song A Tout Le Monde by Megadeth.
It's just the way the song is composed and the lyrics written just really emphasises sadness. (Warning: the song is based on suicide/ a suicide note.) Ironically, the song is soooo anti-Megadeth!
Link to lyrics ¦¦¦ Listen to the song on Deezer.com

    Mama Said by Metallica http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1rWaYfG6eU

This one does it for me. It was written by James Hetfield about both his parents who died from cancer. My mother is currently battling the disease, and this gets me every time I hear it.

Sweet Child O Mine by GnR always makes me smile.

And so does "So What" by Metallica. I won't put up a link to that song, cos I'd probably get banned for it!?

Not Rock & Metal I know, but I think Johnny Cash's version of Hurt evokes more emotion.

For me, it's all about when and where you heard the song first and what it relates to for you personally.

I like the Unforgiven II, Master of Puppets, Rapture by Hurt, quite a lot by Tool, Black & Alive by Pearl Jam.

In Flames-Clayman makes me feel energetic and happy,
Phil Lynott-Still in love with you makes me rather sad and regretful and also Angelica-Anathema is a really powerful, emotional song IMO.

Another song that gets me a wee bit shivery is "Estranged" by GnR. Slash's guitar playing on that song is beautiful.

Forgot all about Rory! I would have chosen his song A Million Miles Away. Amazing song.

I used that song as an intro to one of my YouTube vids! (It is overwritten after about 30 seconds by Cowboys From Hell :) purely for effect. Easy and mellow into heavy and hard.)
Simple Man - Preferably the Shinedown verision
I have never heard that version. Great video. Thanks for that! I have always loved Lynyrd Skynyrd's version. Pure class.

All his songs had an effect on me. He brings a certain quality that so many acts these days fail to even come close.

Other songs/versions that I would put forward are:

Working Class Hero by John Lennon
    Lonesome Boatman by Finbar Furey
    Ordinary Man by Christy Moore
    Journeyman by Iron Maiden
For Whom The Bell Tolls by Metallica
    Cemetary Gates by Pantera

    Great choice.
For me, lots of songs are very strong emotionally for me, some for their powerful music and some even more so for their lyrics. other songs bring back certain memories of good / sad times / places..
Impossible to mention as there are so many.

I have to say its Meadows of Heaven by Nightwish. When I first heard this song last year I felt so uplifted as its an incredibly powerful and beautiful song. As recently as last week when I was listening to it, it gives me goosebumps and I know if I ever witness it being played live, it'll be difficult for me to keep my eyes dry!
