An SDLP working group looking at the future of the party has not ruled out a merger with Fianna Fáil.

Addressing a party meeting in Belfast today, leader Mark Durkan has said the party is 'exploring all political options' as it considers political realignment on both sides of the border.
He added that they would be engaging not just with politicians in the Republic but also with unionists and others in the North.
There has been speculation that the SDLP could merge with Fianna Fáil ever since the Taoiseach said last year that his party was considering whether it should enter politics in the North.

I've often wondered why the stoops (SDLP) didn't want to get on the gravy boat of FF before. A few years ago, a few people formed an unoffical FF in Derry but Uncle Tom Hume poured cold water over it citing one of his usual cliches about it not been the right time amd balance between the communities etc, etc, etc
