Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Given that it's almost the end of the season, I think people should post their teams of the season from the EPL. A couple of positions pick themselves I feel

    James
    Sagna
    Vidic---Ferdinand----Lescott
    Ronaldo---Fabregas---Gerrard----Petrov
    Torres---Adebayor

    Subs:
    Howard
    Laursen
    Clichy
    Bentley
    Berbatov
    Muntari
    Benjani

Not a hope of me having Petrov in the team of the season. I really think fans outside of City have a crazy concept of the guy. Great player yes but consistent? Not at all.

I think I posted my team in another thread a week or two ago so couldn't be arsed trying to remember it.

EDIT: Good lord OP, I see you have Benjani as a reserve. You can't be serious.

*Players like Ireland and Kranjcar I pick because I have actually seen them play great matches, for example Ireland vs Man Utd.

Ah Esteban willl you come on out of that. Stephen Ireland? You must have only watched one City game all season if that's your opinion on him. He's been crap in most of the games he's played and a lot of City fans want him out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,103 ✭✭✭estebancambias

I watched all City games that were on tv.....honestly. I think he's a nice intelligent player. I could picture him and Mathieu working well together in the midfield.

    Damn forgot a right back.

My team was awful, so I'm in no place to question your selection, but Woodgate was awful until he joined Spurs.

although given how things have changed since then i would drop Gallas to the bench instead of Dunne and put one of the United Vidic/Rio duo in his place otherwise it would stay the same.

not one Chelsea player in the starting 11:eek:

I have gerrard ahead of fabregas, because i think he is better(fabregas has gone missing lately) and mascherano is in because he has been very impressive this year in a role that gets little credit.Adaboyor has been v good and torres has been immence.the rest picks itself for me.

That team would get destroyed in reality

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,587 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

    James
    Sagna-Ferdinand-Vidic-Evra
    Flamini-Fabregas
    Ronaldo--Gerrard---Hleb
    Torres

Bench: Adebayour, Macherano, Clichy, Young, Reina.

Got attacking full-backs giving width, allowing Ronaldo and Hleb to cut inside and have a pop. This is supported by the 2 best double-acts in the premiership: Flamini-Fabregas and Gerrard-Torres. Flamini is the destroyer, Fabregas is the metronome. Gerrard with the through-balls on for Torres.

Ferdinand and Vidic are having a great season, and compliment each other well. James is there on merit, but no other keeper has really set the league alight this year.

not one Chelsea player in the starting 11:eek:

Sums up Chelsea this season. Not one player has made the impact this season that they are capable of doing. It shows you how strong they are considering the whole team can just plod along and still be in contention at this stage of the season.

    Here is mine:

    VDS
    Sagna
    Vidic
    Ferdinand
    Evra
    Ronaldo
    Gerrard
    Flamini

Basing this on having seen none of the games live and only a few in full on television
    1. Van Der Sar
    2. Sagna 5. Ferdinand 6. Vidic 3. Evra
    7. C. Ronaldo 4 Fabregas 8. Anderson 11. Hleb
    9. Adebayor 10. Torres

i agree completely. i'd maybe include Anderson instead of Arteta though.

and anyone who's included Benjani, Martin Petrov or Stephen Ireland clearly stopped watching football at Christmas.

They would fit your formation far better than Bentley and Ronaldo imo

That team has one midfielder who just sits in front of the defence, no one to do anything else in the centre, usually a 5-3-2 or 3-5-2 has 3 CM's, the attacking full backs do the job of wingers

Tough leaving Adebayor and Clichy and Flamini out and it's odd to have 3 liverpool players in there. But i think they've each been the best in the league in their position.

    Van Der Sar

    Torres

Tough on the Arsenal trio of Gallas, Adebayor and Hleb who played out of their skin for most of the season, but they are fading now that it matters. Mascherano deserves a mention too, but I felt his best performances were in the CL and Flamini has offered a bit mroe this season. Toss-up between Joe Cole and Young/Bentley, but I felt Cole's game suited my team better :). Honorable mentions also to Jolean Lescott, Richard Dunne, Martin Laurson, Robbie Keane and Wayne Rooney. No standouts in the goalkeeping stakes really, any of a few candidates might have taken it - VDS pips it based on the amount of goals he's conceded.

    There you go, definitive :P

Rooney a sure thing for me, he might not get the goals himself but he's been immense this season.

i'm just going by the full 90 minute games i've seen this season and picked a team from that.

it used to be a bonus for a full back to be able to attack, but now its a bonus if he can defend. Evra is a prime example of how its changing.
