iPaq 2490, looking for GPS

    Hiya,

I have a HP iPaq 2490 and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a GPS car kit for it or at the very least, a GPS receiver. I'd prefer a receiver that could use the card slot as for some reason proximity to Bluetooth gives me a headache! A recommendation for maps for Ireland/UK/Europe would be great too.

    Thanks!

PS Apologies- didn't know if I should post this in the GPS forum or this one.

I have quite a simular setup to what you are looking for. I use Navigon software (http://www.navigon.com/site/uk/en/shop/consumer/pda). It uses Navteq maps which seem to be the best for Ireland. I have the software on a 2GB SD card. I use a GPS adaptor that plugs into the CF port. The same as the one that is listed here http://cgi.ebay.ie/CF-GPS-RECEIVER-FOR-HP-IPAQ-CF-SERIES-PDA-DELL-TOMTOM_W0QQitemZ330222710933QQihZ014QQcategoryZ139836QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem. Works a treat for me.

Hiya, Thanks for that- I've saved that to My eBay and I'll get a closer look at it now. Are you using any kind of windscreen mount in your car? Just wondering about this and external power. I also had a look at the mapping software you recommended- I'm a bit confused as I the brief look I had there mentioned it runs from flash memory. Not too sure how I could have this installed to a memory card and then have the GPS plugged in as well. Maybe I'm being stupid though- I really just skimmed over it!

    Thanks again.

I use an arkon power mount for my car(http://www.arkon.com/poweredpdamount.php). Its grand. I have it plugged into the ciggie lighter. I have the HX2110 which us the older model but it looks like the same caseing. AFAIK your model has both a CF slot and a SD slot. (According to the site it does. Supported Flash Memory Cards: CompactFlash (type II), SD Memory Card, CompactFlash (type II), SD Memory Card, MultiMediaCard, CompactFlash (type II), SD Memory Card, MultiMediaCard, miniSD). In mine on the top you can plug both a SD and a CompactFlash card in at the same time.
