Ah i wouldnt say its a regular thing here in uk but there has been a few isolated incidents. A suggestion has been to upsize your priest to baseball bat dimensions:)

A good spinning rod with a big blade, good sharp treble hook and about 8lb line. "Accidently" cast into the canoe and hook an anti. Give a good sharp pull to dislodge the hook. If your quick enough you can recover your spinner for another go. If not the line will break without too much damage.
This works really well if they don wet suits and try swimming in front of fishermen. You can have some great sport and you'll get a better fight than you will from any fish:D

5oz gripper lead and some casting accuracy practice would be in order, wonder how long a canoe would hang about then?

throwing rocks to disturb fish wouldn't be half as disturbing as the splash a daft hippy would make on entering the water from a height either, plenty of coast to move on to. :D
