I bought a passat that has a tape deck. I wanted a cd player so I took the CD player out of my Clio to
put it into the passat. The memory of the CD player isn't working in the passat. It won't store stations and the CD never resumes anymore. It always starts from the start.

Q1. Any Ideas how to fix this?

I put the original tape deck back into my clio and its looking for the code. I don't have it..

Q2. Any idea how I can get it?

I got sick of setting the stations everytime I got into my passat so I decided I'd put back in the tape deck because I listen to the radio more than CDs. Put back in the tape deck and its looking for the code... Guess what.... I don't have it.

    Q3. See Q2...

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Is it a sony headunit??

Change the yellow and red wires in the wiring harness and you should be sorted. ;)

    Radio Losing Memory

Fault: One of the commonest faults experienced by the DIY installer is a radio-cassette or CD tuner that 'forgets' it's radio presets every time either the unit itself or the vehicle's ignition is switched off.

Cause: Most modern source units have two live power feeds. Firstly, an ignition live switched feed, which controls the unit switching on and off with the vehicle's ignition, and a second, permanent live feed, which generally provides the main power feed for the unit, but which also keeps the unit's memory alive when the ignition system is switched off.

Remedy: Normally, the ignition and permanent live feeds are red and yellow in colour(*). To prevent memory loss when switched off, simply disconnect these two feeds and reconnect in reverse - ie. red cable car side to yellow cable unit side, and vice versa. In many cases, provision is made on the unit's wiring harness to allow easy swapping.

Notes: (*) Cable colouring may vary according to manufacturer. Always refer to the wiring diagram for the unit before connection, seeking the advise of a specialist auto-electrician if necessary. Incorrect connection may invalidate car or unit warranty, and may cause permanent damage.

as the copy paste above, and dealer for the code. suprised you didnt need to buy a ISO block. hardwire is messy:mad:

the ISO block came with the stereo and there's only one way they can be connected. There's no way I'd try hardwiring.

Can I pull the red and yellow wires out of the block and switch them?

yup, just snip them and use connectors, or solder, or a bit of electrical tape(this looks **** and doesnt work great in the long run!)

Usually there is a separate connector in each wire (R & Y) because different manufacturers use different pins in the connector for permanent feed (station memory etc.) and ignition power (turn on with the key).

If there's not, you can probably pull them out of the block and switch them. Or it might be easier to (depending on the length of wires) cut and join them. Twist together good and tight and generously tape over. Be careful and disconnect the battery before working, the permanent feed will spark if touched off the wrong thing.

    EDIT: yeah...what he said ^^

Just wanted to say thanks again.
There were connectors on the red and yellow wire so I was able to switch them and it works perfectly now.

I'm so glad its sorted. Thanks lads!!!
