Lots of good movies mentioned especially Fargo, Heat, Fight Club, Big Lebowski. One of my personal favourites though is Grosse Point Blank. It's an excellent underrated film and isn't too serious either. Also has a really good soundtrack. First saw it many years ago while suspended from school.. Happier times...

If that is Supposed to be "The Secretary" then I wholeheartedly agree.

Also for the Brothers who like to watch stuff of the Dubious nature who have wimmins who like Art-house Movies and not Dubious stuff then watch "9 Songs"

It is a glorified Blue that is all dark and Artsy fartsy so it is OK for the wimmins to watch as well!!!!

    Add Commando to the list.

It's the only film about the lengths two gay men will go to rekindle their love affair that should ever feature on this board.

    The Dollars Trilogy;

    A Fistful of Dollars
For a Few Dollars More and
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

    Spaghetti Westerntastic
    qft
<Bang> "if you're going to shoot, shoot, don't waste talking"

    The Kirosawa Samuri movies
Hong Kong gangster movies, not the light hearted ones though

Classic kung fu movies , with subtitles

Films without a "love" story. Sex scenes or eye candy is fine but no scmaltz and emotions

stuff you've seen many times already so you can just veg out and enjoy the scenes without having to worry about the plot.

    Kelly's Heroes

    Or really funny stuff

Can't rate 'the long good friday' high enough, the end sequence where the camera focuses purely on Bob Hoskins face (no words, just emotion) is worth the viewing alone.
Another two you must also see are 'Manhunter' and 'To Live and Die in LA'.

    WHAT?! BLASPHEMY!

    As for my suggetions...

Die Hard- Show me a man who doesn't like this film and I'll show you a woman capable of logic.

    Evil Dead- Great gore fest.

The Big Lebowski- the main character's even called 'The Dude.'

Raiders of the Lost Ark or The Last Crusade- the greatest boys own adventures.

Jaws- Three men in a boat hunting a f**k off huge shark.

I have to agree with a lot of the brothers films above. Some that I have not seen yet (in this thread, I have seen the films :))

    Raging Bull
    Unforgiven
    Leon
    The Shining
    Casino
    Full Metal Jacket
    Life of Brian
    Das Boot

there are plenty more to be found in the top 250 films in IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/chart/top). There are some girly films on the list as well so beware.

    Crimson Rivers
    Fight Club
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
The Sopranos (okay - a series and not a film but it's got violence and strippers!)

kill bill, even if it is a wimmins film ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,739 ✭✭✭✭minidazzler

Ah, there is too much blood in Kill Bill to really be a wimmins film.
    I love em both.

Battle Royale and Old Boy are very good as well.

Depends on what mood you're in, but how and ever:

    Rear Window. Quality movie imo.

Dazed and confused. Also quality with a great soundtrack.

Rambo IV. Just for the absolute gore of it all. I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail or Airplane. Two of the finest comedies ever produced.

I hope that was of help to you.

Apologies if any of the above were mentioned already.

A few of the "other kind" of films maybe?

Debbie Does Dallas, Deepthroat and Animal Farm (The funny one) You know the Classics.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,920 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

    Anchorman

    legend film!!!

Didn't laugh once. Same goes for any of the crappy films Will Ferrell has played the lead in. That's right, I'm looking at you 'Talladega Nights'. You can lump 'Blades of Glory' and 'Semi Pro' in there as well. Awful stuff.

Another vote for Intermission. Best Irish film ever.

Batman, X-Men, Spiderman (not the last one) as well.

I rented this out of Laser in town a good while back, never seen it anywhere else. Might be hard to find but worth it:)

Battle Royale and Old Boy are very good as well.
too many kids and didn't like the plot twist in Old Boy ( good one but a bit pervy )

Vampire movies are good but not your standard hollywood ones, unless there heaving bussoms a plenty .

    The Lost Boys
    The Fearless Vampire Hunters
Van Helsing ( yeah I know , a guilty pleasure)

    Mr Vampire
    Vampires in Havana
    Nightwatch
Ultraviolet - the Channel 4 series.

John Carpenter's Vampires is on tonight, worth a watch even for the millionth time. :)
