Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is this what the cars are actually going to look like next year? If so then im very disappointed by it, just doesnt look right to me.

What are the other changes, I hear them talking about it on ITV alot but im not quite sure what else is banned etc.

I proposed that a random selection of all those poxy winglets are hacked off with an angle grinder before the weekend.

Seriously though, a couple of months ago in Autosport, Gary Anderson produced an alternative set of regs with the aim of reducing downforce and making it easier to follow closely. It was a really well thought out piece complete with full technical drawings and highlighting the exact changes needed to the current regs.

God be with the days there was little or no regulation.:)

    The whacky 6 wheeled Tyrrell.

Was wondering the same myself. What will the cars in '09 look like? Hopefully nothing like the FIA pics.
No doubt they'll look pretty much like they do now minus all the lego stick on bits. And while they're changing things, drop paddle shifts and re-introduce a gearstick. I want to see drivers trying to hang on to the rear of the car one handed coming out of a corner while searching for a gear.:D

As has been already said, that split "centre downwash" rear wing in the OP's diagram has been scrapped. From what I can gather, next year's rear wing is going to be a bit taller than the current ones but a lot narrower when looking from the front. Think something along the lines of the wings on a Formula 3 or Formula Palmer Audi car but narrower and, as far as I know, you're on the right track.

The front wing is going to be made larger, I believe, to help generate more downforce towards the front and, combined with the reduced wash from the smaller rear wings, should mean a car following behind will be able to get a lot closer to the car in front without loosing downforce over the front wing and hopefully this will aid overtaking.

As has already been mentioned, all the little winglets and turning vanes and other aerodynamic doo-dahs you see scattered all over the bodywork of the current crop of cars will be banned. Not before time too, in my opinion, as for too long now these things have destroyed the sleek, clean lines that an F1 car is supposed to have. I'll be glad to see them gone.

And hoorah for the return of slicks as well. F1 cars never looked quite right on those grooved tyres for some reason.

Now, as The tax man said, if we could just get them to bring back non-syncromesh manual gearboxes and clutch pedals so we'd see the drivers having to heel and toe we'd be set! :D Feck it, just go ahead and scrap refueling too while they're at it and bring back turbo engines putting out 1500 horsepower as well. That'll sort the men out from the boys! :D

the best era for the f1 cars was surely around the mid 90's up to the year before they brought in the grooves and made the cars narrower. the 97 williams was a beautiful car just before all those x-wings and winglets made an appearance.
