New bike pedal disaster help!

I received my lovely shiny new Focus Cayo today:D

However , I ordered Shimano pedals (PD-A530) which are SPD and Shimano shoes SH-RW02 which are SPD-SL and cleats which are supposed to be SPD and SPD-SL compatable, but they wont screw into my shoes

The shoes just have three screwholes in a triangle shape. The cleats have two holes in a more narrow shape.

Am I going to get new shoes or new pedals ? or are there cleats that work with SPD and SPD-SL holes form factor?

Soooo frustrating, got new bike set up and went for a spin in my runners and it felt great..but need proper shoes!

Hmm...I'm afraid I'm new to clipless myself, just started using shimano ultegra pedals. They have the 3-triangular bolt system from SPD. Found this on wiki:

"SPD has spawned 2 types of road cleats which are incompatible with standard SPD pedals and some shoes - SPD-R and SPD-SL. SPD-R is a now defunct pedal standard. SPD-SL is basically a copy of the standard Look clipless pedal system. It has a wide, one-sided platform and a triangular cleat that is Look 3-bolt compatible."

Damn I hope thats not the final answer ,will have wasted about 100 euro then between the pedals and cleats (shoes were more so not replacing those).

Would this Shimano SH-SM85 Cleat Adapter Plate or this Crank Brothers 3 Hole Adapter do the trick ?

those shimano adapters look like they'd do the trick. the crankbrothers one might do it too, but they might only be compatible with their own pedals.

Thanks niceonetom, a few quid on a adapter is a lot preferable at this stage to throwing away the pedals etc.
I'll take your advice and stick to the Shimano brand.
