    Carrier pidgins would be faster than three :pac: Irish Broadband are a lot better for gaming.

    3 and broadband should never be used in the same sentence, its not broadband, its mobile internet. You'll be better with IBB

    As technologies that are suitable for gaming go Hsdpa is not very high up the list. IBB will give you a much better time altogether, as long as its not ripwave you are talking about.

    IBB could do with a few new pigeons.....

    $ ping 87.x.x.x
    PING 87.x.x.x: 56 data bytes
    .
    .
    .
    9 packets transmitted, 8 packets received, 11.1% packet loss
    round-trip min/avg/max/std-dev = 9.827/24.455/121.110/36.535 ms
    $
    $
    $ ping -s 500 87.x.x.x
    PING 87.x.x.x.: 500 data bytes
    .
    .

    11 packets transmitted, 6 packets received, 45.5% packet loss
    round-trip min/avg/max/std-dev = 12.172/82.128/193.460/62.236 ms
    $

    Any dsl package ( even 1mb) from Bt,Eircom,Smart,Ibb will be way better than 3

    The fact you were able to connect to an internet gaming server while using 3 is quite amazing. I couldn't connect to BF2 or any other servers and you can forget about XBOXLIVE. 3 sucks for many things, including gaming.

    IBB should work abit better but you'd be much better off with ADSL as pings would be alot lower

    IBB Breeze OK for gaming, but IBB ripwave can be worse than 3 (or other HSDPA/3G).

    Some Metro masts give better ping than DSL.

    And if we were to not plug Digiweb for a minute, it's fair to say "some" IBB sectors also have decent pings. You will, overall, get the best pings with DSL, though. Wireless, either in Watty/Digiweb guise or IBB, varies quite a bit.

    I've used HSDPA with Vodafone in Dublin city and got some savage (PS3) GTA deathmatchs. I use Three HSDPA in west Wicklow (cant get Vodafone HSDPA), I get full Signal, but useless ping. If you can get Vodafone HSDPA I'd think about that. Try both, most HSDPA providers do a trial period....
