    Hi all,

I am thinking of upgrading my current system:
    CPU: Intel Pentium 4 650 3.4GHz Socket LGA775, 2MB, EM64T, BOXED w/fan
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-8N SLI Pro,nVidia,Socket-775, ATX, SATAII, GbLAN, DDR2, 2XPCI-Ex16
    Memory: (2x512) XP2-6400 - DDR Xtreme Performance Frequency: 800Mhz Latency: 5-3-3-8
    Power Supply: Antec Neo480W
    GFX: Gainward GeForce 7800GTX 256MB 2xDVI PCI-Express, "U/3500PCX XP GS" ViVo, 470MHz
    Harddisk: 2x Seagate 750GB SATA2

I don't intend to replace the hard disks and would (if feasable) like to keep the power supply as well. The rest will probably have to go.

Main usage is browsing, photo editing (Photoshop CS3 and Nikon Capture NX) and playing games (it should be able to play current games like Crysis or Bioshock).

    Any advice appreciated!

How much do you want to spend?

    Good question. €1000, preferrably less.

The E8500 isnt in stock but the E8400 is good too although you might want to strech to quad core such as the Q9450 which is only a couple of more quid.

Not sure if your PSU would take all that so just put in the best one I know of!

    Hope its a start anyway.

Oh and if your monitor runs a resolution of anything at or less than 1280x1024 (say a 19" TFT) the graphics choice is overkill...one would do fine and you could keep your current psu then.

Also if you really wanted to do it on the cheap have a look for bios updates for your motherboard, you might be able to stick a low end core 2 duo series or maybe even a Q6600 in there.
