Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If it sounds like a 747, it's working as designed.

Its a noisy git at the best of times, I play with mine late at night (don't we all) and have to keep the volume on the tv down, yet often its lower then than the racket of the internal fans of the 360!
Yet the PS3, with integral PSU, is whisper quiet!?!

Maybe next time the 360s sucessor will be the quietest most powerful console on the planet,
that or they could market it as a leafblower with wonderful gaming capabilities!

On mine it's the DVD player that makes the noise, not the fan. When I'm watching a DVD it's fine - playing a game I have to turn the sound up. For whatever reason, the DVD is constantly spinning when playing a game. I would have thought they could have buffered some of the game data onto the hard disk to prevent this from happening.

That would involve a different method of reading and running the game on the Premium and Elite models than on the Arcade, and that's too much hassle.
On mine it's the optical drive that's the problem too. The fans are quiet enough.

Yea the noise is a pain.

It's always a 50/50 decision for me buying multiplatform games - achievements vs silence.

Its defo the most annoying when playing a dvd or just listening to music.I still would'nt think its putting off people buying one, though

Is the fan decibel level the same on all versions of the 360?

I never really had a problem with the volume of mine. It's loud alright, but if I'm watching a movie, I've got surround sound turned up anyway, so I won't hear it, and if I'm playing a game, I get stuck into it and pretty much don't notice the world around me. Being oblivious rocks!

Well that combined with unreliability put me off personally.

It's only when I saw, and heard, a 360 and a PS3 side by side that I truly appreciated just how loud the 360 is.

How can the PS3 run so much quieter?

The Thermal design in the 360 is a joke thats why. There are 2 major heat producing chips in the 360 and the airflow only goes over 1 of them. Its also the reason for the massive hardware failures.

It's obvious it was designed with looks in mind, the hardware came after.
