ping time on eircom is about 20ms to uk servers and 10ms to irish servers.

I'm on the 2Mb in Sligo and I just pinged boards there. It averaged at 29ms.

I can only assume that the op was taking about ping times to Mongolia and I'm afraid the news is not good. :(
Here is a ping I did to a Mongolian university

    Reply from 202.207.0.11: bytes=32 time=646ms TTL=234
    Request timed out.
    Reply from 202.207.0.11: bytes=32 time=657ms TTL=234
    Reply from 202.207.0.11: bytes=32 time=643ms TTL=234

    Ping statistics for 202.207.0.11:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 3, Lost = 1 (25% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 643ms, Maximum = 657ms, Average = 648ms

Average of 648 ms and 25% packet loss.
I do hope Eircom will sort this out in future.

there isn't much they can do about it. i remember 300ms pings to korea in '06

I pinged a person with satellite internet once and got over 1 second :) if you pinged a satellite phone you will get even higher pings

wont help much. compared to an old landline connecting at the right speed. maybe somewhat less packet loss but you probably wont notice

Sorry have never paid much attention to pings as never a game player but just curious how much input has an isp to the ping?

Not much they would put more attention on speed although i suppose most dsl products would have generally good pings.

What are you lads using for getting the ping.

I've just been reading the stats from speedtest.net

Start > run. Type cmd into the box and hit enter. Then just type "ping www.boards.ie" without the quotes.

    three lines came up ,13ms ,14ms ,15ms

Jebus ,i didn't think my line was that clean

    Could that be right?

    Edit : BBC.CO.UK is 26ms average

    Thanks AMC :)

put a "-t" after the "ping www.boards.ie" and let it run for a few minutes. Then hit CTRL and C and see what your packet loss is then under the "ping stastics".

average of about 14MS and the TTL=61 with the -T left running.

when you press the CTRL and C key together it whould stop the ping test. Then you will see "Lost = 0" or whatever loss you are experiencing.

Sheizers ,I didn't see anything . I must run it again

    Thanks by the way.

Edit ,I just ran a quick one and the screen closes completely. I think maybe it's because I've ran it as a run command.

Shelling the old fashioned way ,should mean just a page break.

low pings on eircom doesnt mean low pings on xbox live, half the time ur connected to some guy in america hosting halo3 with a ping well over 300. Low ping gaming is mainly only on the pc environment.
