Onkyo 606

This has been announced for a while now, just wondering if anyone knows who'd be the first to stock it in Ireland...

AV Sales in the UK have it for pre order for £400, plus £70 for delivery to Ireland. Works out at around €590 total, not a bad price compared to the Irish retail of €650 for the 605.

Anyway, I would rathar pick it up in Ireland, even at a premium. I'm guessing Alliance would be one of the first to have it, and probably Peats (not the biggest fan of their customer service). It may even be cheaper than the 605 when it arrives here;), with the pound being so weak at the minute.

http://www.zebradistribution.ie/ are distributors for Onkyo in Ireland. Maybe they would tell you. That's a lot of amp for the money. It's not so long ago that you would have had to get the 875 for 4 HDMI. All the sound formats again too.

Richersounds in Belfast may be of help too. When I bought my 605 about 2 months ago (doh!! - I want a 606!) They price matched UK mainland stores and delivered for about 20 STG.

Cheers for the advice, seems like they're expecting them in stock very shortlylinky and only £20 for delivery, don't know why I didn't think of them

And priced the same as the outgoing 605. Word has it that they're expecting first shipment in UK in two weeks time.

I understand from my local hi fi dealer that they have a shipment of 606's (black & Silver) due into them the second week of May price will be €599.00
They are taking orders,

Thank Jebus I was short of funds recently as I was going to order the 605. For once, I can be in the position of getting a piece of av gear thats not superseded by a new model as soon as I buy the old model. Now what speakers would go well with this............any advice please:)

I run my 605 with a set of Kef 3005's, and have no complaints.

right, im all confused here... and im in the business!

on that site johnnyflav posted (onkyo asia) it has the 606 in that gold/champagne colour (savage) and says the output power is 175w/ch @ 6ohms. but on the european site it doesnt have the gold colour and says the power is 140w/ch @ 6ohms???

i want 175w/ch!

It could be that the two websites have different standards for power output.


The 605 Euro site says 140W
The 605 Asia site says 175W

The 606 Euro site says 140W
The 606 Asia site says 175W

The 805 Euro site says 180W
The 805 Asia site says 230W

Too be honest I'm not too pushed about the Champagne coloured amp, I'm almost glad it doesn't come here, Onkyo amps are lookers at the best of times but that's a new low.

I thought the 606 be at least a little more powerful than the 605. I'm considering saving upthe pennies for a little longer and getting the 805.

You'll be lucky , as with all amps the figures are obtained under specialised conditions with a lot of spoofing going on.

The 605 is rated at 140W per channel , in reality its more like 40W.
In its reviews it is rated as very poor in this respect , as the 606 is identical to the 605 except on the number of inputs I would expect it to be the same.

It is decidedly underpowered compared to its hype , indeed there are amps out there that will beat it hands down in this respect.

I was worried when I bought mine about the rated power as the Mordaunt shorts I have are only rated at 90W , however the Onkyo will never reach that so my worries were unfounded.

See the box on the left of the page for its measured power ratings.
IF you want the power , your going to have to go for its big brother , the 805 , to get the THX rating the power has be close to what was advertised.

Well komplett have pushed the expected delivery date out till the start of July which is a joke so I have paided 5 euro more and got it from richersounds. didnt even get an email about the change from komplett.
