April 08, a record for grass frost.

    After the first air frost free March in my records, here's an odd and unexpectantly odd one.

    Already a grass frost tonight at 8pm, this makes 14 consecutive nights with a grass frost, equaling a string of 14 nigthts in Nov 05, the most consecutive grass frosts in my records that began in Jul 2002.

    The east winds tomorrow night may prevent another, but if sky is clear, it probably will be another.

    Pretty impressive, especially given the month, surprised there isn't any anticyclonic Febs or March there to beat it.
    Been very dry in these parts too, dry soil no doubt helps.

    Since I've opened an April frost thread, only appropiate to mention that last night saw lowest air and grass temperatures on record for April.

    Air min -1.8C 3rd air frost of month
    Grass min -7.5C 14th Grass frost

    Did it stay clear there overnight Mothman?, cloud moved in here and killed the frost by dawn.

    No frost last night. Grass min 2.5C.

    So the run is over.

    Will it be frostiest April? Only 18 to beat but with easterlies set in and then milder weather to follow, there may not be many grass frosts from now on.
