Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can anyone recommend someone in Galway city to come out and fix my washing machine? It's filling up with water when it is switched off

    Cheers!

Have you not been using your Calgon?

If you ring Kavanagh Electrical on Market Street they should be able to either sort you out or recommend someone. 091-564266. I see beside it in the phonebook that they have a service department in Mincloon, Clybaun, 091-522368.

Conboy's might have some, but whether they'd be reliable .... I couldn't say. They have shops in Woodquay and New St and a workshop in Liosbaun

    Hi guys

looking for a bit of help . our washer/dryer has broke down. it won't spin! just looking for a reliable honest person who you could recommend.

It went a few months ago it was a simple thing all he did was pour hot water in it and it was fixed and he charged me 45 euro! he was in the house less then five minutes.

I know this is a more serious problem i imagine the motor may be gone but still don't want to be fleeced.

    thanks for any suggestions

    Google the problem.

Figure out what is wrong with it.

Watch a youtube video explaining how you can fix it.

    Fix it.

the 2 main problems that can cause a washer/dryer not to spin are:

    1. The belt has come off the motor
    2. The brushes have worn down

Depending on your make/model, the back or side can be removed by yourself and see if the belt is on the motor, if it has come off, it can be put back on easily.

If the brushes are worn down (these are on the motor), they will need to be replaced by an engineer.

Look at your Manual, if you still have it, if not google your make/model and get the phone number for customer service and see how costly there engineers are.

There is a place in Ballybane Ind Estate called Electro Spares that repair most major appliances. I've heard they are decent enough.

you were not fleeced! did he fix it? if so 45 euro is very cheap.Average call out is 70-80 euro

45 was a bargain, but maybe he could have told you over the phone if it was that simple.

You never really know what the issue is over the phone unfortunately.
I had an issue with a dishwasher and they wanted 70 to show up.
Managed to fix it myself *phew*

Sorry, I lost my sim card abroad and don't have the number anymore

If it's just full of water it's actually pretty handy to fix yourself. You just take the cover part off the bottom, reach in through the circular hole and disconnect the pump. Once you have it out run it under a taps and scrape out any gunk or whatever. Reconnect and then run the drain setting.
