Putting a trace on a program?

My VS 2005 is taking an eternity to load up, I was told that putting a trace on the application and then monitoring the results might shed some light? Wondering how you go about putting a trace on an individual application? Thanks

Check that it's not looking for updates from Microsoft on startup.
