Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Malaria Risk? Vietnam: train from Hanoi to Saigon/HCMC

    Hi,

I'm going to be getting a train from Hanoi to Saigon and stopping off along the way. I'm not 100% convinced that there is enough malaria risk in Hanoi and the coast, all the way down to Saigon, and therefore am thinking of not taking my Malarone until I get into Cambodia from Saigon.

    Should I or shouldn't I?

Malarone is €4 a tablet so would rather save it for where I actually 100% need it.

I don't know about the risk but surely it's worth the €4 just to have the peace of mind that you won't get it

when i went to the tmb last year i was told there was no risk along the coast or in the cities, only the mountain areas and the mekong delta afaik. there isnt much risk in cambodia either, i think its mainly around siem reap, but thats just going from memory.

Mosquito's gather around still water and shouldn't be too much of a problem on a train. Just wear a DEET containing repellent if you don't want to waste money on malaria tablets. Malaria tablets only reduce the effects of malaria anyways. They don't prevent you from obtaining the disease. But don't take medical advice from people on here who aren't doctors. So find out from a professional first.

There is no risk along the coast, heading west into Cambodia or north into Southern China are the risk zones
