The Win 7 disc will be in German, by the way, so you'll need to download the English disc/borrow one to use with your German license key.You can get the SP1 disc here. But you should match up your download the official hash.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/downloads/default.aspx

I've heard that the V8 cooler isn't great and is more about looking cool than keeping stuff cool.

That's a good graphics card if you want to go with nVidia.

Is it worth getting windows here instead - http://www.software4students.ie/Microsoft_Windows_7_Professional_64_bit_Upgrade_Edition-details.aspx

€45? And you get the English disc?

Is it the case that even though it says 'upgrade' it is actually the full install anyway? Think that is what I understand from reading around.

Hardwareversand sell the englisch version too, but looks to be on back order

    The cooler supports
    Socket 940, Socket 775, Socket 1156, Socket AM2, Socket AM2+, Socket 1366, Socket AM3
    Are 1156 and 1155 compatible?

Yeah 1155 and 1156 have the same cooler slot. However as mono said, the V8 is flashy and overpriced. Better to go with something like the mugen3 which is cheaper and just as good.

Just thaught to let everyone one here know that I'm now selling my own comp so it'll probably make things easier for someone who dosn't know or want to build there own, unfortunatly I couldn't drop the price as low as I wanted because of the crappy HDD shortage atm =/
I'll just leave the short-links to the 2 ads on here (one for just the tower and one for the full set-up) and just let me know if your intrested but I'd be more then happy to still spec you out something else if your unintrested and want something brand new of used instead.

    Tower alone:
    €650 w/ the HDD
    €600 wo/ the HDD
    http://www.adverts.ie/1041692

    Full set-up:
    €800 w/ the HDD
    €750 wo/ the HDD

Hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting this =S

Where can I get compressed air to clean out my budget gaming PC?

    In Dublin?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,180 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Car supply places, hardware stores, some chemists, even. Couldn't give you a specific place though. You could try Maplin, but Maplin being Maplin, they will over-charge you.

All versions of Win 7 (with the exception of basic/starter) support system language change through windows update afaik. So you can always install in German (can't be that hard) then just download the english pack. For the life of me I can't remember how big the language pack is however.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

    I don't think that's the case.

See the very last item. Only enterprise and ultimate support language switching.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions

I know myself in ultimate that these language packs show up on the windows update.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,180 ✭✭✭Serephucus

For the life of me I can't remember how big the language pack is however.

They're about 60MB each. Some of the Chinese ones are bigger (~150MB), but the European ones are all around the 50-70MB mark.

Posting this from my new build.

    Thanks again Deconduo.

    Now running

    i5 2400
    Asrock H61M-S motherboard
    8GB RAM
    Sapphire 6870 1GB
Wrapped up with an Asgard 3,
Displayed on a big ass monitor that was donated by my sisters new fella.
Running Linux Mint 12 and Windows XP (Not for very long. Only put it on because I was having trouble with Linux and wanted to make sure all components were working)

    :D Smiley happy fun time.

Anyone fancy putting a budget build together for me? I have monitor, os & hdds so that's okay. Also my budget would be ~400€. Mainly plan to use it for swtor at least for the short term, so don't need anything too crazy.

Monitor resolution would help, as would current power supply wattage. Are you going to reuse your old case (you can't normally if its a Dell) etc.

deconduo meant for you to post a new thread, not post in this one. ;) You'll get much more detailed responses with your own thread.

Edit: Never mind - royally ninja'd.

Good chip, good card, decent amount of memory, it should be fine.
