    Hi
I've been working in my profession a long time now - specialised since 1990 & have been doing increasing amounts of teaching and lecturing as part of the job. Enough to make me think about switching over, especially as I'd like to undertake more research. (Have MSc btw). Have been lecturing Masters students. But I've been put off applying for jobs by the requirement to submit a 5 year research plan as I haven't a clue how to put one together. Any ideas?

Also, what does 'above the bar' and below the bar mean?
    thanks
    JC

the way i've always understood it was above the bar was how much extra you could earn from papers, conferences etc. not sure if thats the way it works but thats how one of our post docs explained it once
