It's my bf's birthday soon and steak is his favourite dinner so was thinking of taking him out for his birthday.

Anyways can anyone recommend a good restaurant?

Not Shanahan's though waaaayyyy too pricey for me!

The Cornerhouse grill is only ok. We went there a couple of weeks back and had checked out the menus online to find that when we got there they were completely different. Not a huge deal but the menu they had out front priced things a good few euros cheaper than the ones they handed us.

Plus the fact that when you order steak that's all you get, just the steak on a plate, you have to pay €5 extra for veg and another €5 for mashed potato which to me is completely ridiculous!

I have to say I wouldn't be rushing back there

That's what I was planning on doing. Which FXB's did you go to?

Another vote for Darwin's on Aungier St.
    Superb.

Was in FXB in Temple Bar a few years ago, dreaful service, mediocre food. May have improved since, but after that experience, I wasn't prepared to give them another go.

No, it hasn't. Worst steak (and service) ever.
