Ignoring the obvious and well-recognised ones, what simple combinations have pleased your palate?

Recently, I put a smidgin of redcurrant jelly on a blue cheese, and I loved the effect.

Ah, not unlike the deep fried brie and jelly, sounds interesting combo

Mix equal quantities of cumin, smoked paprika and sea salt. Sprinkle over lamb chops and grill.

Crushed fennel seeds and garlic on pork chops. Quince cheese on the side.

Blue cheese dressing with celery sticks.

A flat bread warmed over a naked gas flame, spread with homous and a few raw spinach leaves and rolled up.

Spoonful of chilli bean paste in a stir-fry.

A spoonful of rose harrisa in a bowl of shorba.

Fresh grated coconut in a salad.

Don't forget the bacon! Also works on pancakes.

Red onion, feta cheese, olive oil and dried oregano.

Pork with fish sauce, sugar syrup and black pepper.

Charred aubergine flesh, scooped out of burnt skin and mashed with a little salt and olive oil, spooned into a wrap with beef strips that have been flash fried with chili powder.

Strawberries with blue cheese and quince jelly.

I think the addition of an unexpected sweetness in something that's normally very savoury can be a big winner.

Strawberries with balsamic vinegar - Belazu do a balsamic vinegar that is syrupy thick and very rich.

MAJD - that greek salad combination - with steak and english mustard.

    Truffle oil on scrambled eggs.

Fresh chopped chilli, lime juice and fish sauce on lamb (with noodles).

Curry night - potatoes (hot) thrown into (hot) cider vinegar, dill and mustard seeds.

Chicken thigh pieces pan fried in a little butter. Add a glass of white wine and reduce, add some fresh sage leaves. The sauce should be syrupy (and not much of it).

Chicken strips cooked in a wok, add pine nuts, fresh mint, sultanas and cinnamon. Eat in flat bread or wraps with a yoghurt and humous dressing.

Roast, skinned sweet peppers, capers, garlic, basil, anchovies and olive oil. Crusty bread to mop all the juices.

Anchovies sliced into thin strips and marinated in oil and vinegar. Eat with crusty bread and a cold beer.

Meat with rich gravy + mop it up with salad leaves

Digestive biscuit with 2 or 3 pieces of easter on top (like a snack bar but much better)

Pieces of chocolate, scoffed with segments of orange

    Weetabix + Shredded Wheat

Fresh Vienna roll, real butter, chunks of spanish onion fried for about 30 secs, glass of vodka.

Tea tastes better after pancakes than after any other food -including a fry!

A punnet of hulled strawberries, 3 or 4 medium hot red chillies - pureé the lot in a blender. Use as a dipping sauce, or even better as an accompaniment for a good vanilla ice cream. Magic!

    Chorizo and boursin.

Spicy burrito with poached/fried egg on top.
