Drilling a borehole/ Finding the water

I got a company in yesterday to drill a well on our site.
They went down 150mtrs and didnt find a drop.
The guy said he would organise a company to come next week and blast the rock at the bottom in the hope of opening the earth and hopefully find water.
    Anyone heard/had this done before?
He did say there was a 90% chance it would work

  • Registered Users Posts: 55 ✭✭eugenedoc1

He went to 150 feet and left it at that.packed up and went home.
His son rang and said they couldnt get water but could try with the explosives next week.

I have a friend who bored 3 holes and only found a "slow" supply of water... The company recommended explosives, it worked great... and aparrently it was quite a sight being done !!

There was some water present and I think they had bored about 350 feet first..

    Cheers..

I know a couple of water diviners in the Finn valley area but its doubtful if they would travel to Kilmacrennan though. smashey may be able to get a name or two for you.

    Thanks smashey,
Thats the man i got to drill the well in the first place!!!:D.
Everyone says he knows what he's doing.
He's to ring me next week and let me know what he thinks should be done.
People are tellin me its too wet to use a diviner and its better to wait until mid summer when the land is dry!(another gamble).

Thats a crazy difference to Carlow, I actually got mine for €8 a foot 3 months ago and the same company did it for €9 a foot last week for a relation.

400 feet well at 9euro per foot.
They lined 10 feet of it at 4.50 per foot
Like i said im lookin for a good( 1 horsepower )submersible well pump

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,951 ✭✭✭✭Villain

Ah my apologies thats good value, but 400 feet is pretty deep, will 1HP be enough? I have a 1HP for mine and its 220 feet, now I know a .75HP would have done, but you might want to check that 1HP will be enough.

My local building merchants sells pumps so I'm sure if you ring a few in your area someone will sell them.

    no worries,
The local guys reckon 1 hp would do the business. No idea myself. Read somewhere too much power isnt a good thing either. thanks anyway

    Hi lads,
met the well-man and he quoted
€8 per ft + €6.50 per ft for steel lining for first 15 ft. or so.
recommended €2.50 per ft. for plastic well screen after that
.75HP submersible pump and 80lt. pressure vessel for €1100.
reckons 180 ft should do the job as he has drilled a fair few wells in the area and that's the average depth.
    Am happy with that!
Now if the rain would just go away and we could start on the footings.......
