Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Am thinking of running a heads up elimination style tournament between our local players over the course of a few weeks....it doesn't have to be all played on the one day/night etc.. does anyone know of a decent structure for this?

    thanks

I love live HU tourneys and have played in a number of them. The main problem with them is the uneveness of the times it takes to complete each individual match. They are much more difficult to plan resources for (venue, number of dealers, etc.) The other problem with them is that, adding even a little more play to the individual matches adds a lot of time to the total event. The beauty of playing HU is the opportunity to get into your opponent's head, and this takes time. A bad structure will simply turn these into gamble fests.

If there are no constraints, my favorite structure is a double elimination with a lot of play (slow structure). A player has to lose twice to be knocked out, and at the end, the champ of the loser's bracket has to beat the champ of the winner's bracket twice to win the tourney. The problem with this structure is at the end, the last match in the winner's bracket has to be finished before the last match in the loser's bracket can begin. Then the final matchup may have to be played twice if the winner's bracket champ loses the first match. All this adds a lot of time to the event, but gives better value to the field in case they take a bad beat in their first match.

Some modifications I've seen to cut the overall time commitment: 1) Start the tourney in a shootout format, where the winner of each table gets seeded in the winner's bracket and the second place finisher gets seeded in the loser's bracket. 2) In the final match, give the champ of the winner's bracket twice as many starting chips and play only 1 match. I think both of these compromises distract from the beauty of a pure HU tourney though.

Thats abit complicated tbh....for what i've in mind anyways. No doubt it would work, but the single elimination with a decent structure format would be more favourable imo.
