    Hi,

the only other time i heard about bushings was when they were on my car.... something to do with suspension and impact dampening?

So what exactly are bushings used for in AEG's? Why is metal better than plastic? etc.. etc..

    thanks in advance

They are the little plastic/metal things that the gears sit into which allows them to spin freely.

    There are 3 different types

    Nylon Bushings (Plastic)
    Metal Bushings
    Bearings

Nylon bushings are the cheapest to make but will do quite a good job in most stock AEGs. A really high rate of fire will cause nylon bushings to break quiet easily.

Metal bushings are quiet often seen in alot of the clone AEGs these days, they will do the exact same job as nylon bushings except they are stronger. A good set of metal bushings will allow the gears to spin much easier and increase rate of fire.

Bearing bushings are what the name implies, they are bearings, standard bushings are one single piece that the gears sit into, bearings have two seperate pieces that rotate independently of eachother with oil in between those two pieces. Bearings will spin better than standard bushings and can increase rate of fire even more, but they are also weaker than the solid metal bushings and can break under high loads.
