I have used a garmin nuvi, excellent. Features to look for Europe wide maps, as well as uk and ire. The ability to carry unit around with u, you will need to make make it comes with a mains adapter for this, handy if u were in London for example for weekend and wanted directions as u walk/ bus it around city

Be careful leaving sat nav in car. thieves love em,
I heard of thieves who nick cars from airport car parks with sat nav, they know the car owner is out of country , they press "home" on sat nav and they are brought to the persons house .

U can get Sat nav on phones, expensive but handy

Garmin Nuvi 250 for just over €150 from memoryc.com (based in Celbridge, Kildare) is a pretty good bargain

I saw the Garmin Nuvi 200W (Ireland and UK maps only) for EUR 169 in one of the Sunday papers... think it was in Dixons.

But check out that Nuvi 250 at MemoryC as well - they are Irish so if you believe in supporting Irish business go for that instead :)
