Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Problem with .exe files on Vista - disappearing/re-appearing

    Hey

For the past few weeks, whenever I download .exe installation files onto my computer and then open them, the installation box opens up but then disappears after about 2 seconds. After another 2 seconds, it appears again, then disappears again. When I then go and double-click the .exe installation file again, either the exact same thing happens, or it just doesn't appear at all. It doesn't work properly then until I restart the computer.

I have managed once or twice to hit the "Install Now" (or equivalent button) while it's onscreen for those 2 seconds. But even then the program doesn't start installing.

Anyone else come across this problem?

I would suspect you have a virus. I've seen this behaviour with some viruses that stop you running programs - usually to stop you removing the virus.

Another possible cause is Windows Firewall (or any firewall) that prevents access to the net by programs. usually a pop-up will tell you that the firewall has intevened unless you have turned this feature off.

I saw a machine once that was so badly infected, even windows explorer wouldn't run. I had to start programs from a command prompt window which was the only option left.
