Canada - not the USIT way

    So,

Does anyone have experience of moving to Canada and obtaining work there without the preamble of a Working Holiday Visa from the likes of USIT?

At present their program is closed, and they appear to have some sort of a monopoly on the Student & Youth visas in Ireland.

Has anyone gone on their six month holiday visa and legally obtained a work permit on the stregth of a job offer? How difficult is this? What are the costs/timeframe/pitfalls involved? Is it possible to look for a job and legally work on the strength of a job offer/work permit?

It's a bit difficult to get a clear picture from the web, so personal experiences are key. I understand it's not like going to Australia/New Zealand for a year, and applying online with the Immigration Department. There seems to be a difference between a visa and a work permit, and differing criteria for obtaining them.

Any advice at all is appreciated. :)
