Are there any interesting things to do in Sligo during the week other than going to the pub etc. I would be interested in some creative activities such as Art, Ceramics, Writers Clubs or Debating Societies. Any suggestions folks?

I know you can go to pottery classes out in Drumcliffe/Rathcormac I think. Its on the left hand side as you drive out the N15 towards Donegal.I'm not sure if you have to book for lessons or how they operate.
As for Debating Socities,Writers Club or anyything else along those lines,I'm not sure if anything like that goes on in Sligo, but I'm sure I'm wrong.

There's a photography club that meets twice a month.

If you find any of that other stuff though, let us know. I've always wanted to learn to paint (properly) with oil or acrylics.

I'd love to find some good oil painting classes. I used to do oils years ago when I was working nights in Cork. We had a great weekly class once a week with a brilliant tutor. She took a genuine interest in all of her students which reflected on the works they produced. Great place for meeting people I would imagine.
I will let you know if I find anything.

    Hi Jabby
Keep an eye on the Sligo Champion, I can't think of the name of the page, but its where they have lots of small adds for classes, events etc.

It's in the classifieds section - social and personal. Just ignore all the hypnotists!

I dunno... he could get hypnotised to believe he can paint beautifully in oils and is just not appreciated yet, he can feel at one with all the greats gone before him...

    Its a fine plan.

There's a film society in town, think its every Monday night. Not your usual Hollywood muck either, foreign films etc that have won awards.

My friend teaches art! I'm not sure if she still teaches adults, might just be kids? I'll find out for you, if she doesn't do it, maybe she'll know someone.
Otherwise I'll just rent out my mother in law when she's over - give her something to do when she's here... ;)
