Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Film/video editing

I am going to film school next year and was considering buying a new platform to allow me to do work at home or when I'm not on campus.
Now I am aware of the popularity of Apples Final cut pro in independant film making circles and was considering a Mac. However I don't own a mac or have ever owned one. I am not against them I just never used one. I was also considering buying components for a PC as I am far more used to these. Do apple hardware specs equate directly to PC specifications ?
I was wondering aside for the benefits of the various programs associated with either windows, OSX or even Unix for film editing. Which would be more prudent to buy a mac or regular PC in terms or performance to cost ratio? I am sorry if I have over simplified this matter in the extreme.....

I don't know anything about it but it may be worth it to ask some of the experts.

A decent spec mac is gonna cost u... The GF does a decent bit of vid editing, she's been doing it on her iMac till now... Its getting a bit slow and especially with HD footage its dog slow..

I'm building a Quad Core PC at the moe with 8gb ram n 1TB HD space... All in it should come to about €6-700 inc monitor(s).. Thats a mix of used n new parts. U'd never get a mac at that spec for a price near that...

As for software, u've adobe premiere n sony vegas etc on the PC side of things... I'm not sure of the legality of it but OSX will run on a pc with some work if u really want final cut...

You see thats what wanted to hear. It seams to me high spec Mac's are prohibitively expensive....
I know I could build my own for much less and equal or surpass the spec's of an equivalent Mac.
In theory could someone put OSX on a PC? or is it more a pain in the ass than anything else?

Google hackintosh :) Legality is very questionable as its against apples license to use OSX on non apple hardware, but yes its possible :). Make sure you get compatible components though, like only intel chips will work with most OSX installs and sound and stuff can be tricky to get a hold on drivers aswell!
