I never got the way somoe people can be so against letting "under aged" people playing games. Ive been playing anything and everything for years and its done me nor my friends any harm. I remember being flabberghasted being actually asked for id when san andreas came out, Games are harmless so play away and dont let anyone else fool you otherwise.

Unless you have already developing violence tendencies i dont see why not, previous versions have been fairly cartoony violent, maybe this one is diffrent?

My younger brother will most certainly be playing my copy of it, if i ever get off it, hes only 12

You sure about that? :p

Hmm,

Does she monitor what you play?

Did she see Bioshock? Dudes injecting themselves? Drilling peoples insides out?
Murdering little girls etc!

Well then you'll get a Yay from me if she let you play that!

That was extremely cartoony and a very unusual way to put it. That's not what it was like at all. Am I thinking of a different game?

I think you should be allowed to play it, if your mature enough that is...

He's clearly mature enough...I mean look how he handled being told "no" by strangers and his mum

/sarcasm

The ages are set for reasons...However, I am all for parents who take an active role and decide for themselves or keep an eye on the kids. As your parents have said "no", then that is what you have to respect (seems as you also don't qualify as an adult or meet the age recommended).

Unlucky!

🤪

OP, I think you're a bit of a troll, from the way you put your posts you're not 14, I'd say you are a journo trying to get a story.

If you're not, well I'd say no too, it is way overrated for violence but the drugs/hookers are a bit much in the GTA series.

I can't believe you got away with playing condemned, a very violent & scary game.

Just wait for your birthday or something till you get the money for it then go buy a 3v voucher and order it online, if you are smart enough to do that then you should be aloud play :p

Would be hypocritical of me to say no since I used to play it before I was 18 back in the day

Then again my Mam allowed me to play it

No you're not allowed get it. Why don't you go outside, get hammered then get stabbed. The only reason why this will happen to you because the chap who'll stabbed would of played gta4, so the only way to combat this is for you to play the game, so in a twisted way you need to play it to save your life:pac::pac::pac:

I am fourteen and want gta iv.
My mom won't let me get it. In the hope some people don't feel so strongly against it I have come here looking for people who think I should be allowed get it. I play relatively violent games all the time like Halo, CoD4, Army of Two, Bioshock and from what i've heard the violence isn't much more than that. Most of the people that are my age (and younger) get this and many other worse things.

I hope some people will think i should be allowed play it, if you do give a reason as I might show her this page (if she doesn't find it herself).

Thanks
Jesus christ. It can't be that hard!
Think about it, its simple. Ask an adult to get the game. Then hold the disk in a box belong to another game.

Wait outside Game or somewhere and rob someone. You would have earned it then.

I think you even get an achievement on the 360 version of that.

"The watchdogs are right!" achievement.
Violently obtain your copy of the game through illegal means.

dont personally see a problem once a parent has a breeze of whats going on

i watched violent 18's film from a young age, seeing terminator and robocop before i was 10, aliens predator etc etc

saw scarface and the gangster films when i was under 15

and have played just about every violent game out there under age

my parents wouldnt mind cause they knew i wasnt a lunatic, and im not now..

although they are interested in my recent uptake of airsoft, grown men running round with toy guns shooting each other but hey, i love it :)

theres always ways around the parents mate :)

pegi ratings etc are guidelines for parents, as are movie certs, they are guidelines..

i always refer to this little anicdote

porn is rated 18's stricly adults, what time did you pop your cherry, its less hassle getting the real pink then trying to rent it out

:D

I played it until my parents found out what it was...

I think that if your parents are protective enough to not let you get it before you are 18 (or for whatever other reason), they will stick to their guns and won't let you get it and ignore a bunch of strangers on boards that said it should be alright.

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,459 ✭✭✭Blisterman

I don't know if you should or not, but Jesus, is it that hard to go get it yourself?

I sent my 8 year old brother to buy the first GTA when it came out, and there was no problem there, and that was 18s. And as far as I know there is no legally enforced age ratings on games anyway.

I wouldn't get it unless my mum knew. She probably checks my xbox live accounts and hacks into my email and everything. If i was going to get it myself I could just play it in my uncles but i wouldn't.

The age limitation is really just a barometer for maturity level. As long as you're rational and mostly not insane, go for it. GTA is quite cartoonish and essentially a black comedy. I'd have more trouble playing Bioshock around kids.

Kinda feel bad for this kid, im 18 now but I've been playing all the grand theft auto's and the likes since they were released, It hasn't affected me but I guess the question is should it be 18's at all, it is just a video game in the end.

Sadly for this fellow he's not allowed so not much you can do... in saying that if you were allowed it wouldn't make any difference to you, you're not going to run aorund killing people in real life.

People who play a video game and are that much influenced by it should not be playing video games or the likes in the 1st place.
