Just print the following and give it to your mother to read.
6 reasons why kids should play GTA4

Remember to focus on the strong parts of the article and prepare your argument with some strong bullet points(irony anyone:D)

To quote another upstanding member of the interweb,
I played GTA as a kid and all the people hanging in my freezer think I'm fine.

I'd imagine your mam would be paying for it too? You have to respect her, she's only looking out for you. The fact that she knows what you're intrested in - and knows what it's about, shows that she's on your side, though you probably don't want to think of it that way!

I doubt your never going to play it, I'm sure some friend of yours will have it and if they're nice enough you'll get a go, but just to keep the peace I'd leave it go - for a while anyway. Ther's gonna be a furore in the paper in the next week or two about GTA 4 and some kid, I'd imagine, so give it while. Let the interest (and price) die down, show her you're mature enough in that time and hope for the best.

Also, get a football and get outside. You're 14. You should be up to your elbow in muck as we speak. It's, like, the law or something.

im going to vote no. the violence in this is much more realistic looking than any of the previous games. 14 is a little young

No, but I... am your father.

And you dont know this but I have a PS3 in the attic and I'll be playing GTA IV up there when you're asleep! Winner.

Use earphones, if you play it 'a loud' chances are your mum will hear
all the foul language, death screams, gunfire, screeching tyres,
hookers crying, drug dealers getting thumped etc etc.

Don't worry, gamefaqs will probably have a walkthru out before the
weekend and you'll be able to read about all the fun the adults are
    having.

My answer is dependant on what the OP is like, if he's an angry sort of person, no. if he's an easy going guy, then yes. I knew what was right from wrong at 14, and with kids getting more exposed to adult stuff younger, I'm sure OP knows the actual consequences if he imitated stuff in the game.

    So yes.

BTW, ask a friends older sibling to get it for you.

see this is what i have a problem with.

    its a game.

its not real life. Its hardly going to influence this poor kid into going into town and robbing a car/killing people is it?

any child that does that, has problems ANYWAY so should have been looked at in the first place.

OP, buy it online or something and say its another game, or if you have the cash just go into Game/hmv etc and get someone to buy it for you.

did i say it would? aaahhhmmm no but it is 18s for a reason and because of the graphics, itll have a bit more impact than the cartoony visuals as before. i would buy it myself if i was the OP, do you have an older brother or sister, i reckon shops will be strict on this one.

If your mom was really smart, she'd be using the parental protection options on your console so even if you bought it, you couldn't play it :p

Does anybody remember peter12? The 11 year old that we all had a good laugh at!? Well, if he's allowed to play it, you should be allowed to play it!

I am fourteen and want gta iv.
My mom won't let me get it. In the hope some people don't feel so strongly against it I have come here looking for people who think I should be allowed get it. I play relatively violent games all the time like Halo, CoD4, Army of Two, Bioshock and from what i've heard the violence isn't much more than that. Most of the people that are my age (and younger) get this and many other worse things.

I hope some people will think i should be allowed play it, if you do give a reason as I might show her this page (if she doesn't find it herself).

    Thanks

    Ive played it.One word ,no

Personally I'd say no, but considering my dad bought me GTA 1 when I was six years old, I can't really talk.

If they sell it too you then you should be allowed, if you need someone to get it for you the no. Doesn't solve anything and it's still wrong but still this is how i see it(only when it comes to games though;)).

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,115 ✭✭✭chrismon

At 14 i was doing much worse things than playing computer games.
I think you should be allowed get it depending what your like

    Ok, we'll ask you about how you are doing in school;

    1. How many times did you get detention this year?
    2. How many times did you get special detention this year?
    3. Apart from Irish, English & Maths, what practicals do you do?
    4. What do you like about them?
    5. How well did you do in your Christmas tests?

Please tell the truth, it doesn't hurt.

Seriously guys GTA3 and on - its just not suitable for a kid. Now GTA 4 is taking the whole thing to another level in terms of visual appeal, Plus its not so much the look of the game, its the content, sure the graphics are better here but its the language and the concepts.

The reason why its 18's is that people who know better than a 14yr old kid understand that a minor has no true frame of reference with which to separate fantasy from reality. That only comes with maturity which in itself can differ widely from person to person, and our little friend here may be one of the exceptional ones, but then who's goin to take that chance, you throw a wide enough net out (make it 18's) and that way you remove the responsabilty from the publishers and retailers that somone with a low maturity level doesnt take it too seriously and end up doing something stupid only to have it blamed on games. Its18's for very good reason and NO WAY should he be allowed near it.

Sorry kid - go get Mario Kart !

If your lookin for a place that'll almost certainly sell it to minors, try argos.Never let me down on any gta game before.Gamestop were always the worst. They asked me for id for MOH, a 16s game when i was 15 at the time.FFS
OP, Rock on, what difference will it make in the grand scheme of things. The age ratings are made to be broken. Why else do they exist????

  • totally agree. fair play to this young lads mother. Theres gonna be a lot of silly parents buying this for there kids, children are getting way to spoilt for there own good. This version of the gta franchise takes the maturity level up a significant notch also.

then again its not gonna stop damn american 5 year olds getting there little mits on it and screaming down there xbox live mics f*ck sake

If you can't seperate fantasy from reality at 14 you need to be incarcerated.

  • Registered Users Posts: 111 ✭✭georgiemcgrane

Im not even trying to say that any 18yr old is mature enough for this but a line needs to be drawn in the sand somewhere. There is no excuse anymore for parents to plea ignorant and not understand what their kids are up to. The fact that he has to ASK his mum to get it for him empowers her to say NO ! and rightly so. Your mum is looking out for you OP. I mean you might as well be asking her to buy you porn or beer in the eyes of the law.

Clearly a serial killer in the making...Wise choice not to buy the game!

I wonder what the guards would say to you if you presented yourself at a station confessing to have bought an 18's game or dvd for a minor.I imagine most would laugh at you.

If thats the case why not let a 14yr old into an 18's movie. Is that ok as well? Does that mean that a 14 yr old shouldnt be allowed to watch movies like Alien or Lethal Weapon. Sure they love the violence and chaos but they havent developed the prequisite reasoning in their mind to deal with the ideas being presented to them. This is the point, games have got so good at depicting an interactive experience they have to be rated to protect minors. Its like people drinking before their 18.

They should all be incarcerated anyway, that'll teach em' to be so young.

Yea maybe but its still the law. You can hate it all you want, but its there for the good of society so your point really makes no sense. Why dont you try it and see what they say, id be interested to see what happens, reckon you might get a bit of an unexpected response.
