Now I know Wikipedia's not always right about these things, but what would you expect he would have played?

    Oldskool tbh :pac: :D

Id be surprised if an Irish crowd were into dance music that isn't uplifting, when i heard some dj play minimal in Space Ibiza all i could see were monged out heads nodding away to the music and zero atmosphere.

How would i know i wasn't there, and it's not as if dj's always play the same style of music, in fact anyone who does all the time is IMO boring, it's all about mixing it up.

Sven Vath supposedly plays minimal thesedays but i heard he played a (not minimal) Techno set in Tripod the weekend, it's all about mix and blend.

I world have loved to have seen Villalobos. He is definitely one of the most Prominent Minimal DJ's / Producers around so of course he's going to play minimal! However he's a pretty entertaining DJ live so he's probably going to be playing techno and some other stuff too. Look at some of his video's on youtube and he plays all sort of crazy stuff.

There's a big difference in the Minimal to be played in Clubs, and some of the minimal that you'll hear on CD's etc. Many of these are way moreso meant to be listened to than danced to. Take for example Ricardo Villalobos's Fabric CD. Even I though that was booooooorring and I really like minimal - but it got some excellent reviews (but not all).

You cannot deny that Minimal is a now a very big part of today's electronic music scene. Just look at e.g. the DJ Charts on beatport, minimal all over the place. 2 years ago and it was not nearly so prominent. I was not a fan of it at all back then but I'm well into it now... It was similar with Electro. That came in with a bang and it was all over the place. It recently seems to be getting such a bad rap - mainly I think because a) it got very commercialised with big underground electro tracks getting remixed and put on the radio, and b) because there is a large amount of seriously sh!t Electro being released - I've downloaded some albums that have just been pure painful to listen to, but some others that are quality. I still think there is 'some' very good electro around.

Minimal like dubstep & even electro house is just another passing fad and will fade into obscurity in time, i could list many genres most notably big beat which was touted as the next big thing in dance music a number of years ago but died a death never to be heard of again, same as speed garage although there are some people trying to revive that but it wont be as popular as it was first time around.

Real House Music will never die nor will Techno, these genres are established and are here to stay.

Absolutely, same with Tech House - has been prominent for as long as I've been into dance music and is just as good today as ever imo

Ricardo didnt actually play much minimal at all, it was quite a chunky set.

Nothing like his fabric cd, which is crap bar one or two tracks.

And yes he did actually play a couple of old skool tracks, believe it or believe it not ;)

Donna Summer - I feel love

and a few others I dont know the names of, but know the tune

it looks like my guess was right and he decided to play it safe knowing the Irish crowd would not respond to minimal in a club.

Crikey my old threads being ressurected :D last year when Sibin was on was also the nite the Asylum reunion was supposed to go ahead but it was stopped:confused: and we got a taxi back from Balbiggan and all.

Had a good time @ Sibin, line up this year looks very Techno orientated, will see if i can make it along to this, one thing though what's the stofry with the putrageous price of gargle in that Man O War pub charging Temple Bar prices, surely they cant be doing that again this year given the current econmic climate with so many people having lost their jobs, etc?

You’re absolutely right. They were outrageous! When we found out last that this had been going on we were horrified. We have spoken to the owner this year and the price will be dropped.. Just a little note too NO glass bottles.. Plastic is fine!!!

If I wasn't working tonight and tomorrow, then it would be 12 hours of Twist for me...
Karim (legend!), Chris Liberator, Batten & Brow (seriously solid residents), James Nardi (****ing destroyed the place when I saw him there a month back), Steve Maynard...
Then right next door in Area there's Andy Farley, D.A.V.E. the Drummer, Paul Glazby and Pete Wardman...

Would be a night of epic proportions, and that's before the afterparties!

Dear god I love London sometimes!!!:D

    /edit
    Old post is old! >_>
